My point is we know who/;what tolbert is, worse than Nicky. We always use this excuse, the Twins way for years. This Hughes kid is flat out a better baseball player than Tolbert. But we have to not rush the kid, bull. If tolbert is the utility player, I WANT NICKY BACK!

So you'd rather see Hughes rot at the end of the bench the go somewhere where he can continue to improve? What good does it do him to sit on the bench? What good does it really do to keep him up here? If you keep Hughes on the team when are you going to play him? If you need a late inning pinch hitter you have Thome, there's no way Hughes is getting the at bat over Thome. If Thome is already in as DH then you likely have Kubel on the bench. No way Hughes is hitting instead of Kubel. If you need a defensive replacement Hughes makes ZERO sense, you aren't keeping him for his defense.

The only way Hughes would get to play is when you've used up the rest of your bench, so maybe he hits once a week at most. What value is there in that? You want to waste a roster spot on maybe 1 at bat a week with no other value? Considering his spring training stats if he gets 1 at bat a week he'd get you 1 hit every 5-6 weeks. Talk about a waste of a bench spot.

Its not always about who is a better player. Its also about what your team needs and what it already has. The Twins already have late inning pinch hitters on the bench. They need a guy who can play multiple infield positions, Hughes can't do that right now. Thats why you send him down.

Ok, so you send him down. Remember how much we heard about Valencia last yr in the minors. Couldnt hit for power(only had 1 hr) when they brought him up. Couldnt play defense at the major league level. Seemed to work out ok, with given a chance. Didn't say anything about being a pinch hitter, they dont need one. If you seriously think players need to develope in the minors than the 2nd baseman needs to go there becuz Bert just said his caliber baseball in Japan is equal to between AA and AAA. He is the better player but Gardy likes Tolbert better, not becuz of his ability.
