More Poachers.

CO's already have that privilage. They can stop people without probable cause. That is why they can come to your fishhouse and check you. If they had the privilages of a regular peace officer, they would not be able to do that. A better solution is big time fines, loss of all your gear, your face in the paper, and loss of privilages. Just my 2 cents!

i had a buddy that worked at his parents resort. he witnessed every year for the most part out of state fishermen take loads of panfish over they're limit. i was talking to him one day and he was telling me this so i asked him why he didn't report them to the DNR, and he said it happens all the time and if people get busted they won't come back. he actually told me there was a group from chicago that was taking off in the morning with at least 2-3 limits per guy in the freezer(5 guys in the group) and they were on the lake as we spoke. so i told him i was calling the tip line and he said don't get me involved. this seemed like pretty solid information on a good amount of fish. so i called the tip line and talked to i believe a CO. he asked a few questions and stated that if i had not witnessed the violation with my own eyes, there wasn't much he could do. that was 4 years ago and the last time i called the tip line, but have confronted many ohters that i have seen violating the game laws. at a minimum they usually get off the lake and know there are people watching out for that kind of **** . posssibly thinking twice about violating laws the next time. things must be going a little better since it sounds like there are a few big busts recently, but i thought that was rediculous they didn't even investigate the information i gave them. imagine how much poaching goes on that people never hear about. its up to everyone to help wardens out (there just aren't enough of them) and do they're part to stop poachers. whether its confronting the suspects or calling and hoping a CO responds to the call. this can just kill a good lake fast.

Alright, that does it!!!! 4 more poachers are caught w/338 sunnies over the limit, I'm heading out now with new vigilance. Fishing is overrated but catching poachers is great sport...

There will always be a certain percentage of any type of offender who has looked at the penalty, weighed the risk of getting caught and decided that overall it's an acceptable cost of doing business. For those folks a little extra intervention or peer pressure can go a long way. Until enough people decide they have had it this will continue.

I keep saying this every time the TIPs line question comes up! Someone will ask for the phone number for the TIPs line and I say, "IT IS ON THE BACK OF YOUR FISHING LICENSE"! No need to post another sign at the ramp. Everyone who has a fishing license has the TIPs number on the back of the license.

Mpester is correct about the tip number. However, everyone needs to remeber not to remove the backing from your license, because that is where the number is located. I know in the past, I removed the back so I could fold and stick the license together. Just a little reminder.

Only-eyes, That story you told really ticks me off.
1st, How many fishermen are going to come to the lake when all the poaching has effected the fishing?
2nd The reason your friend said he didn't "tip" was because they wouldn't come back.. Why would your buddy who simply works at a resort care? I might buy this excuse from an ignorant resort owner or local shop owner but a person that simply works there? hmmm? sound like a cheep excuse from someone that really didn't care.
3rd The law is there to protect the fisherie not the resorts, if he did have some personal recource because he was involved in "resorting" then he is putting his/who-evers financial gain over the fisherie.. Bet not to many sportsmen would visit the resort when they found that out!

Anyways, I just don't get the whole "keep me out of it attitude". The poachers are truelly the problem, however the people that know about it and do nothing become a major part of the problem also. There is no reason to protect these people. And, because of this, your friend/the resort is part of the problem.

Only-eyes, just to see if the attitude the resort person you spoke of has spread...Whats the name of the resort, so we can ALL have a choice to not go there... Then maybe they will see that they loose more business not "tiping" than when they do and the poachers don't return.

This may seem unfair to the resorts but someone has to start doing something!

Yes, I see that now..however how does this make it ok? The reason it upsets me so much is that alot of resorts I had been to as a child had the same attitude.. now look at the problem many of them are facing.
