Went out on a job today installing a new toilet for a customer! Just as i got the old one off set wax ring/ new bolts, something very strange happend. A strange noise was comming from the sewer pipe and an ever stranger smell besides the usuall smell! lol! To my curiousity I make my way to the basement and to my very puzzled self I see the 90% furnace 2'' pvc exhause pipe going into the main sewer stack!! I asked the homeowner what it's all about he say's "I didnt want anybody to drill through my stucco house and It's worked fine for the past 10 yrs and my vent through the roof has never froze since i put it in!!" Now that's a new one to me!!

I once was working on something for one of those types. He asked if I wanted to see his 100% efficient water heater? I said sure, natural draft water heater, no vent at all, just in basement. Old leaky house, i just laughed. Poor guy only lived to be about 96 if I recall correctly.
