Walleye Rod

Recommended Posts

If you could pick your best all around walleye spinning rod suitable for live bait rigging and jigging, what length and power? I tend to like a 7' MLF for live bait and a 6' M for jigging. But I'm looking to put a rod together specifically for my wife and I'm curious what's a good middle of the road rod. Maybe 6-6" MLF? Not too long, but long enough?? Thoughts?

I use a 7 foot Setyr for most of my jigging and light rigging --- it's a Light power fast action rod but I think it's more comparable to a ML power. But it's too light for rigging with heavier weights, or for pulling spinners. For that I usually use a M or MH power rod.

My wife, being a bit shorter than me, prefers a 6'3" or 6'6" rod. I think ML fast action is the best all around --- unless you're rigging with heavier weights or pulling spinners.

I like a walleye rod that catches fish

Anybody remember those pocket fisherman rods that were sold in the '70's? I actually bought one then and it worked.

When I was a kid, it seemed you didn't have all the fancy choices you have now. Since we didn't have a lot of money then, we just bought those closed faced Zebco rods and reels that you got at any discount store. We even fished with the same line that they came with and caught plenty of fish!!

Today, my tastes have become more enlightened but I'm still not picky. My basic walleye jigging/inland water trolling is a 6 foot spinning rod with medium power and fast action. I also have been using more Fireline for all my rods. I'm a tall guy but I like the 6 foot still when I'm fishing alone. It's easier to net fish by myself.
