Line Breaking

line going on loose is on you, not the line. you're not keeping enough tension on the line

second this. I always run the line thru my fingers to keep tension on it. just spooling it will cause the loose line problem.

Amateurfishing, nice to read about your new found interest in icefishing, congratulations on your success. If I was you I wouldn't wait til next year, there's still alot of ice fishing to be done. I panfish a ton, and thru experience 2lb gold stren is the way to go.When spooling it,have someone help you. They hold spool with pen or pencil thru it, and provide tension . Don't put too much on, too little is much better than too much. Full spool isn't important for ice fishing, you're not casting. I have gold stren on 2 of my rods that's 3 years old, still great. You should stretch your line once in a while too. You can do this while fishing , just grab last 2 arm lengths of line and gently stretch it. You'll be amazed at how this improves it, and your fishing. 2lb vs. 4lb makes a difference , like I said, I panfish alot biggest mistakes I see people making is too deep and too heavy of line/gear. Good luck on the ice. wink
