speedbump
I am in the market for a new set of tires for my 2006 Sportsman X2. I ONLY use the wheeler for ice fishing. I was wondering what tires you have purchased and how well they work on the lake in the slush and deeper snow. I'm not trying to make this a "Ford VS Chevy" debate, I just want to know if you like or dislike what you purchased and why. Thanks in advance. Toba
I needed a new set a year ago and mainly use the wheeler for icefishing. I went with chains and have done really well with them. The price of chains went over a little better than new tires with the wife also. Just my two cents.
speedbump
I already run chains on my ATV...just need some new tires...
Dave S
There are tires that work better than some in the snow, but what has been already stated above is the cheapest route to go and the stock tires will work perfectly fine with a good set of V-Bar chains. usmcjsy
I put carbide studs in a set and they work awesome. For one you dont need to worry about a chain falling off, especially when you really get the tires spinning.
Fowlmouth
Kenda executioner, awesome in snow!

usmcjsy
Looks good Lightning, thats exactly what I did with my wore down stock tires. They stick to the ice like velcro!
Dave S
A buddy did this with his Predator and you could literally pull wheelies on the ice with them studded like that.
PurpleFloyd
I had the Titan 589 tires on My Sportsman 500 when I had it and they really went through the snow and slush on lakes. I never ran chains on it.
Sgt. Schlitz
Lightning the studs in your pic. What type are they and where would you find them? Is that a custom job you do yourself? I have a wheeler that primarily gets used for ice fishing and I have a set of old stock tires that are well used. Maybe I could stud them up for the winter only. LightningBG
Sorry for the slow response. That is not my tire and I'm not sure who did the studding. some people use sheetmetal screws or other hardware store stuff, but there are products designed for ATV. So a search for Maxigrip Ice studs (carbide). Or places like Dennis Kirk sell them (1000 studs for $62, but not carbide)
Musky hunter 82
I took a pair of old stock tires also, nad ran 100 1/4" hex head screws into each tire. Works awesome and cheap, only about $2-$3 per pack of 100. Make sure on the length though, if they are too long you might leak some air. I ran 1/4" depth on mine and haven't had any come loose. The only bad thing is that they tear up the cement floor if you turn sharp.
Sgt. Schlitz
Thanks for the update. They look very similar to hex screws just wondering how that would hold up. With an old set of tires and some time that could be a low cost solution. And sounds like it works according to MH82
Ed Carlson
Also check out a product called J-Wheelz. Deep snow, mud even water is no worry with this system. Cost is less than $600 for the kit.
JeffS
Just bought some 26" ITP mudlites I'll try to figure out how to post a picture of them
JeffS
Here are the pictures of my new tires. They made a world of difference in how much snow I'm able to drive through. The top picture is comparing the stock tires to the ITP's.
