Where are all the women?

Recommended Posts

This forum used to be buzzing, now it is dead. What happened? if anyone knows me I live for fishing and being outdoors. I have met a lot of great gals on this forum who I have made lasting friendships with. I would love to see more women posting their tips, hints, accomplishments, etc. Some people might think it is not a big thing when a woman learns how to run her own boat, back that thing in the lake and launch it with ease, learn how to maintain that boat and trailer, learn new fishing techniques, etc, but I think it is quite an accomplishment. Last year I blew a wheel bearing on my trailer, a male friend of mine offered to fix it for me as my hubby is no longer physically capable of doing these things. I decided to go on the internet and see how difficult a job it was. The internet has become such a wonderful tool, I learned how to do it and completed the job myself. I could have relied on a man to help, but what if I am in a situation where I have to rely on my skills alone? I have a lot of male friends I fish with who have taught me a lot of valuable information, but I also have a lot of female friends who amaze me with their abilities. I really want to see more women enjoy the sport of fishing and hunting if they so choose. Plus I am always eager to learn new things about the sport I love so much.

I agree, this forum has been very dead for some time now. I just got back yesterday from a 3 day fishing trip on Lake of the Woods with my husband. We had a great time, caught 40-45 walleyes and saugers over the 3 day period, and kept some nice ones for eating. Fished out of Zippel Bay. Haven't fished too much this season here in Wisconsin. We get kind of fed up with it. Living in Grand Rapids before, we had access to so many awesome lakes. Some days I swear there isn't a fish in Wisconsin! I do miss those lakes around Grand Rapids. You are very fortunate. Have a safe rest of the season, and take care.

Wow, I used to catch a lot of fish around the Siren area. I have hooked up with the Wisconsin Women Fish group and will be heading to Chequamegon bay in Ashland for a fishing trip with a couple of other Minnesota gals the weekend of March 13th. Sure nice to see someone is having some luck fishing this year.

I'm still here but not getting into the outdoors too much at this point. I eat, sleep and breath RN school right now! crazy I have to say that I miss the fishing reports and other activities that have been posted in this forum in the past. Life will get back to normal and I will be more active. I really miss my time on the water and being an outdoors chick!

It is true that this is not a forum designed for dating and flirting. That's what match.com and eharmony is for.

I think this is a great place to post your fun and adventures. Don't you all agree that this is a great place to do that?

It's also very nice to have a flow of information about gear and techniques that you think can be helpful, fun or make other's experiences just better because you have 1st hand knowledge of what works and what doesn't.

What an adventure! 40-45 walleyes and saugers?! I am jealous. We went to LOW over MLK weekend, and I caught maybe 1 or 2 walleyes. The guys with me caught a bunch, but I did catch a big ol' eel pout about 27inches, my first one through the ice. We fished out of Zippel Bay, and a couple of other accesses I can't remember. We didn't stay in the resorts though. Just brought a portable tent and lugged it around. My favorite part of the trip was eating the breakfast buffet at Roseau Motel. Gotta love the bacon and eggs blush

LisaTealz: Tell me about it, school is such a drag sometimes, I'm needing to synthesize some Vit D outdoors!

I haven't caught ANY walleyes this year-so sad! Some chicks have all the luck! laugh I've heard that Lake of the Woods is really kicking out some great fishing this year.

PKV-I'm about ready to invest in the light box for some light therapy I tell ya! Although I actually do take Vitamin D also. Even if it's sunny outside, it's not sunny in the hospital or the classroom. UGH!

Haha! I've started taking a multivitamin with vit D, but it sure doesn't beat just being outdoors. I'm a pharmacy student on my last didactic semester in school; this summer we finally start rotations. Health care is a tough field, and they sure do make us stay inside as much as possible. When I'm done, we're heading to Wyoming for some really good stream trout fishing. Can't wait!

That is one awesome summer break plan! It's nice to have a light at the end of the tunnel. You've picked a great field too.

When I'm done in May, I'm actually not entirely done. I'll be heading back next fall to further my degree. Glutton for punishment I guess. I have issues getting all the meds into my head! Any tips on your successful memorization skills?

I hate memorization! So I don't do it. But I think it's probably different for nursing because you don't see the meds on a daily basis so you have to memorize. It gets a whole lot easier when you use it all the time, it's just second nature. So I guess, I don't really have any tips except, use it or lose it? Sorry. crazy

Are you working on a nursing b.s. right now? What's coming up in Fall?

I am heading back to Upper Red this weekend with Hope for my last walleye hunt. I have caught more walleyes this winter than I did all last summer. Last summer was kind of tough for me, kept hurting myself and my favorite lake X just refused to give them up last year. I decided to skip Burntside this year and I am really gonna miss it, but I didn't want to fight the snow up there. Who knew it was going to get so warm right before it. As much as I love the ice fishing I am kind of itching to get the Lund back on the water.

The hubby and I haven't made any up north trips this year, but have had fun with the prairie potholes down in southwest Minnesota. Last weekend we had the camera down a hole on Lime Lake and there were so many perch down there it was a blast! The water was clear you could actually watch them down the holes. Most of them were pretty small, but we could see well enough to pull the minnows away from the little ones and dangle them in front of the larger ones. It was a good day.

Any of you ladies heading up for the Sturgeon Excursion in April? I went for the first time last year and am now HOOKED! Can't wait to go back this year. Luckily I don't have any big trials scheduled at the time (I'm a crime reporter for a newspaper) so it should be an easy time to get away.

PKV - the Sturgeon Excursion is a get-together up on Lake of the Woods. If you jump over to the main forums and go under get-togethers, you'll find all sorts of information about it. I went last year for the first time and had so much fun. I met a ton of people from these forums, caught my very first sturgeon, a few of them, actually, and decided I had to go back.

This year my husband and I are bringing a friend who has never fished for sturgeon before, so it will be fun to introduce him to catching the big old dinosaurs. It's all catch and release. I didn't know a darned thing about them before I went, and everyone was super helpful. The first time I latched on to one, people in other boats cheered me on as I reeled away. My husband danced around me like a nervous parent, advice came flying from everywhere, and I was laughing so hard I'm surprised I didn't drop rod, reel and fish into the water. What a hoot!

The biggest one I caught was only about 42 inches long, which all the seasoned vets tell me is little. But to me it was HUGE! This year I want to catch a monster so the naysayers will show me a little respect grin

For those that may not know me or remember me from before, my hubby and I farm in SW MN. I learned how to run the combine this fall, and will spend a good deal of time in there this coming fall. It was either learning the combine, or learning how to drive a semi.

I haven't been very active on this site for the past 16 months - mostly doing quick checks in the photography and cooking forums. I didn't have the opportunity to wet a line at all last year, and I really miss it. I am hoping to change that this summer!

I am also working on a personal project, which takes up a good chunk of my online time. I dropped 40+ pounds in a little less than a year. Had another family member diagnosed with MS in December (my 20 year old daugther, hubby, and his sister all have it as well), and put on 15 of those pounds again. Now I am working at getting back down again.

I will try to wander back up here a little more, just to see what you all are catching. If nothing else, I can live vicariously through you, right?

I'm back after about a 5-year hiatus. What's everybody up to ??
Just waiting for you to get your keister back on here! Good morning, fellow Lisa! I know you're a busy girl too. Thanks for posting!

Caroline, I have to live vicariously at this point as well. You could sure PM on any weight loss tips that have worked for you! That would be awesome! I am sad to hear about another MS diagnosis. That's really a tough road. Hang in there-prayers are sent.

Justine, I would love to do Sturgeon Excursion but not this year. Maybe next year! You and Mr. Boilerguy might want to think about getting up to the Burntside Bash next year and then we'll all be able to chill AND fish. It'd be great!

I'm new to the site so I don't post anything because I'm not sure what to post and I'm kind of a shy person so its hard for me to write stuff and never sure what to post. But lets see if I can tell a little bit about myself. I am married to rippinlip and have a beautiful 11 almost 12 year old daughter who a little over a year ago was diagnoised with mild epilepsy. We've been told she will grow out of the seizures so we are trying to be patient. I am big into 4 wheeling and am looking forward to the summer so we can get out and hit the trails. I also enjoy ice fishing with the hubby especially when I can out fish him like I did over New years on Mille Lacs. I also keep busy watching my daughter play soccer. I have also gotten into to shooting bow whether its 3D shoots or trying to deer hunt with my hubby. So thats a little bit about me and am always looking for new people to chat with.

Welcome to the forum, I am always happy to meet new gals. I see Paul from Appeldoorns is remodeling one of his fish shacks just for you. I was also on Mille Lacs New Year at Hunters with 19 other gals, some from Minnesota and a bunch from Wisconsin. I love my 4 wheeler and mostly use it for ice fishing and plowing. I don't take it with me in the summer much cause I am too busy hauling my boat around. Didn't get to stay at Appeldoorn's at all this winter, but Paul is a great guy and I hope to get down there this summer for some launch fishing. I am not into hunting at all but have a lot of respect for the gals that do like my sister. She hunts and doesn't fish, I fish and don't hunt.

Hello ladies, well I thought I post here in the women section. I've been a member for a few years now, but I didn't post anything because I didn't have anything to post about. This year I've been posting a few here and there in the ice fishing forum. I LOVE ICE FISHING!!! along with every outdoor sport I do year round. Hmmm... a few things about myself; I go camping when I have free time, fishing, hunting for deer, dove, grouse, pheasant, ducks, and geese. My husband and I are always doing something season after season. One season closes and another opens. My husband is my hunting and fishing buddy. He never leaves without me.hehe.We bought a yellow lab a year ago to add to our hunting team. Her name is Koda and she is one year 6 months. We are in the works of training her. Let's see what else.....I love my toys and I think we spend most of our money on those.LOL grin Hoping to add some new toys like a new truck, atv, and boat someday. I wish I could fish and hunt everyday and not have to work, but I know its not possible. I'm still in school too. I would like to meet and get together with other women who love to do all these things. My girlfriends don't like to do the things I do because its too much work for them. It's a lot of work, but it's so rewarding to me. I've been reading a lot about all these women get togethers and they sound so fun. Well, for now I must finish school than I can play everyday; just one more year. Nice to meet everyone.

Thanks for the offer!

This is Mark, (4wheelinmama)'s other half.

Yes I will say that our daughter is Everything in our life, but I will tell you all something about our baby girl, she is the power that drives me every day.

Seeing her deal with this is hard, but she doesn't let her effect her the way it does us.

She shoots bow, has her own ATV, plays soccer on a traveling team and she made the "A" honor roll this last trimester.

Seeing how she takes everything on makes our lives so rewarding it is unbelievable.

If you go back in the Ice Fishing forum and check out some of the pictures, it shows our daughter with her 1st Jumbo too.

The more I age and see our lives it really puts alot of things into perspective.

Thanks again for the offer and support.

Mark

4WheelinMama, nice to meet you! Don't worry about being shy, just post away! It seems you share my love of ice fishing - my husband and I spend as much time as we can out in our fish house each winter, but I know how life can get in the way of fishing time. We're getting close to being empty nesters, our youngest boy graduates this year, but there always seems to be somethign trying to keep us from our fishing. Luckily, we power through it. grin My house always seems to be a disaster by the end of ice fishing season, but hey, priorities, you know.

I came home from work the other day and my husband had pulled the boat out of the massive snowbanks behind the garage. Just seeing it sitting in front makes me excited about getting out and floating around. He's getting it ready for the Sturgeon Excursion coming up in a few weeks, which I'm totally pumped to do. The anticipation of catching a few sturgeon is just as thrilling as the prospect of taking a few days off work! Yippee!

I'm not much into hunting, but I love trying new ways to cook the stuff my hubby brings home. As for 4-wheeling, we have one, but it's more of a work horse than anything. Oh, and we use it for walking our really big dog, because I can't keep up with him, ha ha.
