Solo Lazer Mag & Lazer Pro

Before I drop the $$$, is the Lazer Pro all that better than the Lazer Mag? Has anyone put them up hand & hand on drilling and see which is quicker? For the price I rather buy the Lazer Pro however if its not available I may pick up the Lazer Mag. I see the only difference is .5hp.

Although I dont think I can find a Lazer Pro locally anywhere at this point in the Metro. If not I may just wait till next ice season.

I know some guys will tell you that you need the Pro, but in all honesty I can't see anybody buying the Mag and thinking "Gee I wish this thing cut just a little bit faster, that extra .5 hp sure would be handy!".

The mag is going to literally shred through the ice with no effort from you at all.

If you want the fastest here you go. Granted it is a 6inch vs 8inch but the NILS put the smackdown on the Lazer Pro. Granted I have Lazer Pro and Love it. Also, love the fact that it's a MN company.

I've used a Nils before and its an awesome auger. But 6" is way too small for me. I am used to a 9" Z51 Eskimo and 8" is the lowest im willing to go. I liked the Eskimos but they are just too heavy for hole hopping on the ice.

LOL, you can't compare 6 to 8. It's apples and oranges. The 6" is going to win every time. I'd love to see a Nils 8" up against a SM Pro 8"...I bet they would be pretty close.

This gives you an idea of lazer cutting. These blades are dull and new ones will be going on this week. Magnum Solo 2hp with Lazer upgrade auger:

"> " type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350">

3-4 lb's is a killer when hole hopping or drilling a ton-O-holes. 2.0/2.5/3.0 hp, they cut fast with the Lazer attached. wink

Picked up my Solo Lazer Pro yesterday, last one in stock. I had a little trouble starting as for some reason it wouldnt start so I took the plug out to dry it and followed the directions in the manual.

After putting the plug back in I still couldnt get it started. I can feel it fire up or wanting to ignite but but doesnt run. After a few tries and scratching my head I figure I take the plug out again. Then I found out I had bented the plug side electrode and it was touching the center electrode. I remember accidently dropping the plug then earlier. I quickly adjusted it back with some pliers but couldnt measure it to .30mm since I didnt have a measuring tool.

Decided to put the plug back in anyhow and the solo fired right and ranned! Picking up a extra new plug and measuring tool to gap the plug.

I havent drilled a hole yet but tested the throttle while in the garage. Cant wait...

I'm picking up a 6" for my Lazer Pro this week (if I can find one) and will also be fishing with the guys with the NILS on that video next month. I'll make sure to get video of the race.

I'd love to see this race. That 8" SM wasn't too far behind the 6" Nils in the other video. I wouldn't' be surprised to see the SM win.

Congrats on the Solo Pro. I'd like to see that race too. I was out a couple days ago with my Mag and then noticed a guy about 100' away (couldn't see what he was using) using a gas auger with a really low max RPM (maybe half of the Mag) and it was taking him about 3-4 minutes to cut a hole (it's about 30 sec with the Mag) with quite a bit of wiggling the auger. Anybody know what auger runs at these low RPMs? Was it just malfunctioning or just ancient?

Are you fishing the rush event with us?

Congrates Andy. You will enjoy. smile

I would say the lower RPM ones were either Eskimo or Jiffy. They cut slower and IMO surve another purpose (resort perm re-opening of holes) but to take that long maybe a new ice fisherman with dull blades?

Travis, I might make it to GR but that's depending on alot as I got the NAIFC in SD this weekend, maybe doing the team USA tryout in March and then I'll be traveling trying to kill a snowgoose at the end of march. So it will all depend on funds and if I can fit it in the schedule. I hope I can make as I could use some good fishing with some hardcore fisherman like you guys. Man I Love this time of year. ;-)

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
