i am gonna go spend a good chunk of money on some baits and rods in the next couple of months. i have the equipment to get by. i have 2 7' gander mountain rods with abu garcia reels and one 9'6" rod from okuma. and have box full of baits from cowgirls and bulldogs and a couple topwaters. i now have a boat that i can troll with. i want to start trolling this year. what baits and rods would you get to really have full muskie box of baits to have a good chance at boating fish? thanks for your input.

Cowgirls and Bulldawgs catch fish. I'm not a troller so not much to add there, I'm a caster. Good money spent is on good rods/reels, stuff that will last and not be in the shop being fixed. MN Muskie Expo is a good place to look around and ask questions, hit the swap on Saturday ight and pick up some good baits at a good price as well as rods and reels. I know I'll have half a dozen reels and maybe a rod or 2 and maybe my Beckman to swap, plus whatever baits I don't feel the need to have anymore.

jakes are some of the best trolling baits of all time, believers too. really though you can troll any bait in your box almost. i use my normal rods for trolling usually but there are better rods (fiberglass, etc) you can look at if you want to go all out.

Definitely invest in a few believers in a few different colors if you are looking to troll most of your time on the water. I've always been a caster, but when the arm gets tired and I want to troll I've caught multiple musky on my collection of believers.
