Gardiner14
I am thinking about spooling up a baitcasting reel with flurocarbon this year. I have used flurocarbon once before and had a terrible time, it was very stiff and kinky and couldent cast more than 10 yards with it, it was Berkly 100% flurocarbon in 15lb test and am not going to use it again. I was woundering what some of you use for jigs and soft plastics? Iv hurd about Berkly Vanish, Vicious Pro Elite but have no idea. Any input helps. Deitz Dittrich
Well, it really depends.. Are you spooling it on spinning or baitcaster. I do not have a ton of success on spinning unless in low tests.. IE 8lb and below.. But do fine on baitcaster up to 20 with no issues.. Yes its stiffer.. you just have to deal with it. Deitz Dittrich
BTW, I am still a huge Gamma Edge fan even though they dont make it any more.. I may still have a 3 year supply...
Gardiner14
I may and will be spooling it on a baitcaster.
john36jan41
I have had the best result with "flurocarbon" by using it only as a leader, no matter what length i needed. My main line would be "Power Pro" or "Fireline".Casting problems became a lot less when I started this. You may find the same result. Good Luck... Ray Esboldt
I have found that underfilling the spool with flourocarbon (baitcaster or spinning) seemed to minimize some of castability issues. Of course, that could be because most of the reels I have are rather well-used and worn.
Wayne Ek
I've had no problem with fluorocarbon on baitcasting reels. Both of my T-rigged rods and one pitching rod have fluoro. on them. The T-rig's have 14 & 17-pound fluoro. and the pitching rod has 20-pound fluoro. I have had great luck with Bass Pro-shops fluoro. and it is priced pretty well.I do have some Vicious fluoro. on the way. I want to try it this season as I've heard from other anglers (that I fish against) how much they like the way it handles, so I'm going to give it a try. One tip, if you can find some old style nylon line (like Mean Green) use that as a backing on your baitcaster. It does two things for you, it makes the fluoro handle much better and you save a little money as your not spooling as many yards of fluoro. BassNut33
I use fluro on all my Texas Rigs as well, I have had no problems with it. I have used Berkley Vanish and Seguar and bot work well. I am switching to Vicious this year, like Wayne I have heard good things. Wayne that is good advice about putting on filler. I hear so many different things about waht to throw with different lures. Do you guys use fluro for your cranks and spinner baits? I have heard that you want teh strech of mono for these?
Wayne Ek
For cranking I have two rods. One with fluoro. and a second with braid. Mainly the braid rod is used to rip rattle-baits and shallow cranks thru weeds. I use braid on my one spinner-bait rod. And I have mono. on my topwater rod.
