Markum in the boat

Yep, Ive got an LX-3. It worked great through the ice. Anyone using it in the boat? Not sure if I want to spend the $ for a transum mount, or just throw the ducer over the side. (It doesn't work real well if there is any travel). What do you guys think..?

Yup I use mine all the time, by tossing the transducer over the side, but there are 2 downsides to this, first it's gotta shorten the life of the transducer cable, because it takes a little beating, secondly it can't really be used at an speed, over a slow drift, other wise the narrow beam will not see you lure. So the short answer is yes it work, the better answer is to get the transducer for the trolling motor/transom.

Oh the transducer cable is aweful short for this, it works, but it does put you $400 unit aweful close to the edge of the boat too. The do make extention cables too.

i use mine , i have a trolling motor ducer it mounts to the botton of my trolling motor i do not have the high speed transducer but they work awsome , i know people who use there vexiliar or markum exclusively takes a little getting used to reading them but i think they are more accurate , good luck

I'll be using my LX3 up in Manitoba next week. I bought the high speed transducer unit and mounted it to a 1 x 4 piece of pine and I'll C-clamp that to the transom of the boat that we're going to use up there. Hopefully this will work. I haven't used the Marcum in open water yet.

I have had my marcum on my boat all spring. I bought a high speed transducer. I remember I was surprised how much they wanted but don't recall the exact price. I was pleasantly surprised how easy it has been to see in direct sunlight even w/ sunglasses on. I previously used a Zercom Clearwater Classic and could not see it well w/ sunglasses on. You paid $399 for it, get a decent transducer to effectively use it all year!

mounted my lx-3 on the bow with the ducer on the trolling motor, works great, and its plenty bright to use in direct sunlight which my older fl-8 did not.

Cabela's has a clamp on transducer mount that might work, or you might be able to modify it to fit an iceducer. I don't know for sure, I was thinking of trying it with the vex instead of buying the transducer, but that is on next's years wish list, I went overboard with this years list....

I have a question to ask about the Marcum. I have the ice package also and want to add to my boat. Looking at the trolling motor puckducer for it. My question is are you running of the battery pack or wiring it to the boats battery system?

I have the high speed mount on mine set near the back of the boat for back trolling. I mostly use it when I'm trolling or bobber fishing but it works great. I run a cousil boat and my other locaters/gps are a bit hard to see from the back of the boat. I run the power directly off the starting battery.

G3, You can wire direct to your battery or you can use the ice battery. What ever works best for your situation. The unit will read through the hull of an aluminum boat if you have a little water on the bottom. You'll love running that lx3 in the boat.

I finaly purchased the high-speed transducer. The kit came with everthing I needed. Brackets, long cable (trans), power cable, everything. I like to stay portable and mobil. So after reading the good advice i decided to plug the ducer cable to my ice pack (to use that battery) And mount the ducer to a piece of wood, which i clamped to the transum. A litle tweekin' here and there and it works great!

I finaly got to try it out tonight.

It was fun watching those sunfish chase my jig again.....I miss the ice

In the past I have used my vexilar in a boat also. I you have just a plain aluminum boat with no floor the easiest way I have found was to put some water in the back of the boat and just set the transducer on the bottom of the boat, have just enough water so the bottom of the transducer is under water, It works great, the aluminum doesn't even affect it then you can drift with it. Hope this helps.
