How to put oil into a tractor?

bikeoutback

Question

Sounds simple right but I'm learning as I go here with owning a tractor. I have a 1938 Allis Chalmers B. There is a dipstick on the side but the hole is tiny so I'm guessing (hoping) there is somewhere else I put the oil in but it's not like a car with a cap that says Oil. I'll try and get a picture or two of everything I do have after work but here is what I do know as far as caps and openings.

1. Very front of tractor cap, didn't check if it was marked because I'm 99% sure it's radiator cap. Gauge close by it is also temp gauge.

2. Exhaust comes out top, got it check that ain't it.

3. From where I sit on the tractor I'd say south west of the exhaust is what I think is an air intake. I pulled the top of it off and it has holes and appears to be a filter of some sorts. First thought was air intake.

4. I have in the middle of the tractor nose front to rear and dead center left to right another cap. This one I thought twisted off but in fact pulls off. It's covering a 1 inch tube that appears to have oil. I'm thinking this is my spot, I'll grab a picture or two if I can.

Only other thing is the gas cap and I know what goes in there.

Also any recommendations on what oil to put in this thing as far as weight. I was told by one person a 10w30 would work, sound about right? I'm using it to plow my driveway now and mow in the summer along with possibly food plots. Essentially it will see regular year round weekly use.

Right side of the tractor. This is the side that has the location BobT pointed to with the arrow but no way to put in oil there. Looks like that's where the throttle arm connects but that's all I know about that. This side does have the dipstick though, that much I can tell at least wink

Left side of the tractor, nothing on this side appears to take in oil.

Top of the tractor. As far as I can tell bottom left is air intake, just up from that exhaust, right of the exhaust is the one I'm referring to in #4 that I'm not sure about and far upper middle radiator cap.

Picture of the one I'm not sure about, #4, with cap off.

Picture down the tube with cap off of the one I'm not sure about.

Hope this all helps... the only thing I can see in the pictures is that mine is not as clean or as pretty as the one BobT posted but it starts and runs so it works for me. Forgive me I'm not mechanically inclined and know very little about tractors except that I have to maintain it and how to check the oil on the dipstick wink I'm learning though and enjoying it.

Thanks guys that is what I figured also with all the oil that is coated on that tube also. It's a little low so I'll top it off tonight.

Thanks MJ1657. I know she's not the prettiest of these old restored tractors but it's going to be a work machine for me, not a parade machine so doesn't have to look pretty. It just has to start every time which it's done all winter so far.
