laminate wood on ceiling?

Seeing as how laminate wood is much cheaper than real wood, has anyone ever installed it on a ceiling instead of real pine/cedar? Thinking about it for a vaulted ceiling at a lake cabin. pros/cons?

How will you stick it to the ceiling? Most laminate floors are floating. Or are you talking about something that gets nailed down?

As someone who use to install wood and laminate flooring I can say there is NO pro's to this option.

Laminate is made to float, not be secured. Gluing them can be done, but typically the backs aren't made for adhesives. If you do decided to do this I would say use a PL400 construction adhesive, but that takes a long time to cure and it would take you a long time to install laminate. Maybe locktite liquid nails would work?

You probably can shoot nails through the laminate, but its going to chip, probably bend tons of nails in the process and it will be more of a headache if anything. If you do nail them up I would suggest shooting the nails/staples through the TONGUE of the laminate.

Shooting nails through the tongue could cause troubles for the next pieces to fit tightly as well.

If I were you I would just find cheap T & G and do it the right way. You won't have to worry about sagging or glue not holding!

If I were you and had a vaulted ceiling I would find an old farmer land with an old farm house or barn and ask them if you can give him some money for some of the old barn wood!

It would be the most durable ceiling I've ever heard of.

I don't know how much laminate goes for but I was able to get 1400 sqft of 4” tongue and groove pine for $1.27 a sqft a couple of years ago. Check with small sawmills and you will probably be surprised with their prices.

Sounds like a very tough and time consuming instalation project, and I don't think you would like it in the end.

after looking online you can buy cedar planking for about the same price as the cheapest laminate

you could get the sticky tiles 12 x 12 and stick them on the ceiling

Sounds like a bad idea. Someone mentioned it to me, and I had never though of that as a potential option. I'll toss that option out. Thanks for all responses.
