Gun Restoration

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I was just handed down several guns from my grandpa today and was wondering what a good product or method for removing rust would be. The pits are not that deep, but I've never done anything like this. I'm just wondering what anyone else's prior experience is or what you would recommended.

I had a gun collector tell me just this past weekend, on old guns use a good oil put a drop or 2 on the rust spot and rub a penny over it, the older the penny the better it works. A penny is made of softer material and will not scratch the finish/blueing. am going to try it tonight

Blue Wonder Gun Cleaner and 0000 steel wool. will not effect the blue and will remove rust very quickly. You will need to neutralize the ammonia with some good gun oil afterwards but when you are done, you will be looking for more rust to clean off.....

Some really old guns are worth more if they aren't screwed around with. If you have something that's really old you may want to check around to see if you're better off leaving it as is and relishing it as a piece of family history rather trying to make it look and be a useful firearm.
