cbrooks
]. I bet you doubted me Brooks. Yep . I don't think we ever agreed why start with the arena.
BartmanMN
Is the ice sheet Olympic sized or NHL?
cbrooks
Judging from the pictures I would say its NHL size rink.
Bear55
I really liked how the games looked on tv, the camera was close to the ice in this rink and you can really see the speed of the game. Sometimes at Mariucci the players look like ants out there.
solbes
Yup Amsoil is NHL sized ice sheet, 85 x 200. The old DECC was 10 feet shorter and was one of the smallest (if not THE smallest sheet in college hockey). Seems like the WCHA is exactly half and half with regards to ice sheet dimensions. Olympic sized sheets are Mariucci, St Cloud, CC, Alaska Anchorage, Kohl Center (97' wide), and Mankato. The rest are NHL sized.
solbes
Check that, RIT in the Frank Ritter Mermorial Arena has 85 x 185 dimensions, so the old DECC did not have that honor.
cbrooks
Here's an article in the Wall Street Journal about college hockey arena's. Amsoil got some recongnition in there.http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704132204576136462675400454.html
scsavre
Pretty cool, I wish the Gophs could have Alcohol. Its my favorite arena, by far. I just hate how it is catered to the old and rich alumni, rather then the students. I swear there are 1000 open seats every game this year cause the season ticket holders dont show up. I really think there should be a bar in there. It just makes for good atmosphere, a great meeting and hang out place, and oh yah. Tons of revenue. Maybe they wouldnt have to increase tuition every year then.
