Lap top for the cabin and maybe boat.

Looking for a simple and good laptop to take to the cabin. Nothing fancy maybe something that can play movies but most important be able to load Contour Elite on to it and maybe be able to hook up or install GPS software and maybe internet..

I have no clue when it comes to Lap tops and I dont know where to start other than stating what I need it for.

Sounds like a new computer is what you need, and something that has a decent graphics card. I imagine you could get a decent one that isnt a big one for around 3-400$

You are not going to get a decent graphics card in a laptop for $300-400. That is the cheapest laptop that you can get. If you don't care about HD video you would be able to get by with a 300-400 laptop though.

I would look for an i3 or i5 in the $500 range as a starting point.

a 300-400 dollar laptop will play a dvd just fine, also will run that lake map program just fine.

Ya, essentially it would be used for the mapping software and DVD at the cabin nothing special just something for the lake cabin. I wish my bud still worked at Best Buy cooperate, I used to get some good deals on lap tops but I always passed them by because I did not have a use for one then.

Sure, but a laptop in that price range is going to have a low-end graphics card. If you are not worried about HD video then you are fine.

I got a well used Thinkpad for 200$ off of the list,craig for tuning my car and it has served me well for a solid year now. Honestly I like it better than the dell notebook (less problems for sure) that I had gotten new at the same time.

i just bought a basic Dell Inspirion for $600. came with more bells and whistles than i need, but I've had it for 2 months now and its great!
