Ok, time to start talking about summer plans!!!! The family and I are headed out to Yellowstone the first week in June. Anyone have any tips or sights to see? We are staying at the "Canyon" campground for 4 nights and then deciding what/where to go. We thought about dropping down to the Tetons and staying for 3 nights or ???? We have 10 days to use so let the ideas roll!!! laughlaugh

I have been out there about 6 times. It's a great place to visit. Check out Jackson Hole down in the Tetons is very cool town for the kids and family as there are tons of shops and things to see. Also, there is a fish hatchery where they rear Cutthroat Trout which is kind of cool to see. The park roads are kind of layed out like a big figure 8 if you look at a map and if you plan it right you can see it all. One place that's kind of neat to see right at sun down is the Lumar Vally (sp). Bring a spotting scope or binoc's to check out the Wolves and Grizz that travel the valley. West YellowStone is another neat town to bring the wife and kids with lots of shops and things to do. Of course you have to stop at Old Faithfull and all the hot pots and geysers. Not sure if you will have time but if you can sneak a fly rod along you can do some Trout fishing in the park and down by Jackson. Have Fun! wink

You should have a great trip. Depending on the time of year you are going, it could be fairly crowed. At Canyon you of course will need to see the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone and Falls. There is also Tower Falls and Rooseveldt. A day trip to Old Faithfull and assorted geyser basins. Another day trip to Norris and Mammoth. Plan on at least 45min-1hour drive between each destination depending on weather and "animal jams".

At the Tetons camping is available at several areas. We stayed at Gros Ventre campground which seemed to be fairly centrally located for the activities we did. In the evening the buffalo would wander through the campground grazing. There is brand new visitor center at Moose in the Tetons which is very nice.

Check out the NPS websites for each park, they have a newspaper and maps you can download with the seasonal activies. If you have younger kids, there is a great Junior Ranger program for them to participate in. They can earn cool patches and at the same time have fun doing it.

Just remember plenty of film or memory cards for the camera!!

Have a great trip!!

Thanks everyone. We are heading out June 2nd for a week. We're hoping because our kids are out of school early that the crowds might be a little less than prime summer. Did the Gros Venture have a lot of tree coverage or was it mostly open meadow?

Thanks!@!!!!!!!!!!!!

Went there around the same time in 2004, stayed 5 days, firt 3 days were 75-80* and sunny, final 2 days were 30* and with about 6" of snow so prepare for everything. Should not be to crowded at the time and hit all the spots mentioned above.

If i remember right, Yellowstone and some of the other bigger lakes were closed to fishing due to spawning/bear activity around this time but that was 6 years ago. Also alot of the famous rivers in the park had a pile of regs like fly only, stuff like that, still alot of water to fish and alot of fish to catch.

If you buy your groceries inside the park, prepare to pay an arm and a leg for it. Have fun

The Gros Venture campground is heavily wooded. There is a river nearby the campground where we usually saw 2-3 moose everyday. The buffalo and pronghorns were also around in the open areas before you get to the campground. The campground is quite large and flat with a lot of very nice sites. There is also a ampitheater that the Rangers give talks in the evenings.

Also don't forget to check out the old barns and homesteads on Mormans Row.

Enjoy!!

Hey JiggingJoe,

We were in Jackson Hole/Teton area last june, about the same time as well. The mountains there are beautiful, and I would say 3-4 days if you like hiking and fishing. I recommend Jenny Lake area for hiking - very kid friendly. Some hikers had spotted moose near the shores of the lake. We did some fishing off the Jackson Lake dam (on the way to Jenny Lake) and caught a lot of lake trouts and a few cutthroats. I recommend keep all your lake trouts to the limit and release all the cutthroats. Early June, the weather is still relatively cool 40s-70s so there aren't too many tourists in the area. You might get a hiking trail all to yourself. Have a great time!

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
