"romantic" getaway/late honeymoon

my wife wants to do something in febuary around valentines day. been married 1 1/2yrs and never took a honeymoon due to a 2 yr old at home. i wanted to take her to lake of the woods fishing (been trying to figure out how to do so for about a year) before she even got this wild hair. i would like to stay in the northern part of the state, like Baudette area, as i have never been up that way. and have been to the Duluth/north shore area a few times.

as far as im concerned just her and i getting away is more important than where we stay or all the romance packagages at places like bluefin bay and gunflint lodge offer for that time of year.

any ideas ladies?????

Check out Zipple Bay Resort. They have luxury cabins with fireplace and Jacuzzi + ice fishing!

Last February my husband and I stayed at Zippel Bay Resort. We did the 3 night/2 day fishing package with the meals. We had a blast! Just booked another trip with them for this coming February. The food was fantastic, they feed you 3 meals a day, all you have to do is walk over to the restaurant and sit down. As far as the fishing part, they will give you directions to the house you will be in for the day. Hop in your vehicle, drive out on the lake right up to your house, walk in, and start fishing. They will have the heat already on and the holes open. This year we will be taking far less stuff with. No need for heavy winter gear or boots. The houses are warm and you pull right up to the door. And as far as food if you go with the meal plan you really don't need anything else besides maybe some beverages and candy bars/popcorn, etc for in your room at night. They will feed you well. It was also very reasonable. It cost us somewhere in the $550 mark for the package. This year we are doing the 4 night/3 day package because we had such a great time. Good luck!

I would bail on the ice fishing. Give her the one weekend with no fishing or you'll be hearing about it for the next 20 years, how you brought her fishing for your honeymoon.

Take her somewhere nice for that weekend. Plan an ice fishing weekend a couple weeks later.

You could bring a snowmobile up or rent one and ride the trails do some snowshoing or cross country skiing. Could even go to to the "HUGE" casino. There are lots of things to do around the lake. My wife keeps bugging me to go to Florida to sit on the beach. How boring is that!! I tell her if she doesn't want to go up to LOtW she can stay home, but she keeps coming!!

I have to total agree!

If your wife has very little interest in fishing this will come back to haunt you for years to come. The other locations that have been mentioned will get you a ton more credit for being such a thoughtful guy. You really need to make this weekend special for HER and leave the fishing gear at home. It may not be your idea of a great weekend but the brownie points you could earn will help you the other 51 weeks.

Don't forget a nice card and a box of her favorite candy

Realistically you cant go wrong with Grand Casino Mille Lacs. Book yourself a suite, do a little dinner in the casino, play a few slot machines, go out fishing, head back the the room for a little suite action.
