Marcum ShowDown

MN Mike

Recommended Posts

Thinking about getting a ShowDown for my Dad to use in his crank down house and I might use it with my LX5 some days also.

Anybody here use a ShowDown with another flasher at the same time? Looks like they work well together.

Trying to decide which one to possibly get, the Ice Troller is an interesting concept but maybe there are more features on the bigger models.

I can't even remember if I've played with them in the stores or not but if someone could give me their thoughts on these units I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Mike

I've used my Showdown sitting next to a vex and a marcum. They worked just fine together. I had to do some fine tuning, but once I locked it in, it worked really well.

I used my showdown for the first time yesterday and it worked great. Fish were a bit finicky, but I was marking them really well.

I got a Marcum Troller for my birthday (Dec. 17th) and used it next to my Vexlar for 1 day this holiday weekend.....I only used the Troller for the other 3!

Clearly shows the smallest GillPills, small fish (the occasional larger fish!) and the digital depth display (ie reads "18") is nice. Clear separation. No "zoom" if that is important to you...but I like to see the entire water column to watch for crappies swimming through.

I used both in and out of the accessory pack. It is especially good for shooting through the ice of frozen over holes to see if anything is down there (to much snow to try it elsewhere).

I used it to 22' and it clearly signaled the smallest ice jigs.

So far...a solid A+

I have used a showdown for 2 entire winter fishing seasons now and am completely sold on them. I would recommend them to anyone over most flashers. You cannot beat them for the price. I can fish 10 times + on a fully charged 12v! If you plan on taking your sonar on a trip, say into the BWCA for a couple days to fish, a flasher might make it a day or two and then it's through, and no way you want to haul extra twelve volts when you dont have too. I really like the presentation of actually watching my bait go straight up and down through the water column as opposed to round and round. I'm not necessarily a flasher hater, I just dont see spending the extra few hundred dollars on a vex with similar features as the showdown.

I have been googling for a while and "the difference between the Showdown Ice Troller and the 5.6 dual beam is, well price 199.99 compared to 399.99 (comes w/ pack) and get this 1.5" of seperation from two different objects." is all that I have found. Although that was on a Chicago fishing HSOforum, and I'll admit us Illinoisan/Illini aren't the brightest.

put difference between marcum showdown and troller its the first site you get.

Basically what they say is that anything is better than nothing, whether or not it is a depth finder only, a troller or a actual flasher...

I don't own one but I've been looking. The troller is physically smaller (5" vs 8") screen, the troller is less powerful (4000 vs 8000 watts peak to peak), and for the $199 the troller only runs off of AA batteries. You can add $50 to that price and get the soft pack which includes the harness to run from 12v battery.

As far as I can tell they are both a really good deal for brand new flashers. For $250 you can get yourself into a flasher with case and worry about the 12v battery and charger later on. They are not very exspensive.

MNMike, Up on LOW my buddy and i fish together all the time, I've got an Lx-3 Marcum and he's got the Showdown, they work great together. i've been thinking about getting one for a second unit. Last week out at 12 mile we through in an Ice 55 and still no difference. We did have some interference with his old FL-8. Don't hesitate! Good luck

The Troller is on sale for $159 at the C store and you can use the $20 off coupon you print as well i believe. So there you go Crm7290, $139 for the troller seems like a great deal.

Thanks for the heads up Darth, unfortunately my gift certificate if for Scheels but for that price a guy might have to buy one straight out at the big C, we'll see what happens.

BushPilot, CrabShack and TapsBug THANKS for the ' real world ' experiences with these units, that's what I like to hear! Never thought about these units being solid state and how much that extends the battery life, another good point.

It will be a couple weeks before I get a chance to take a look at one in the stores.

Thanks for the information on this thread as I picked up a Troller at the "C" for the $159 price less a $20 coupon for a final price of $139. I have configured it to a PVC run and gun contraption I made that supports two poles, scoop, pliars, small tackle box and two pucks. All of it weighs as much as my LX-5.

After reading this thread I went out and bought one last Saturday. Took it out Sunday, and I must say I am impressed. Scheels here in St. Cloud had it for 200. I called and asked if they would price match...the guy said they do and would check it out. Got to Scheels and he had it marked for 139.99. Absolutely perfect, even saved me 20$ in gas cause I didn't have to go to Rogers.

Needless to say we got stuck on the way across the lake, went through into some slushy ruts. Broke a 4" by 4" and bent the heck out of a 3chisel with the come-a-long. 3 guys turned down pulling us out, and others turned around when they saw us trying to work the truck out. A guy did eventually come after being stuck for a good hour and a half.

Marked the fish no problem. I know it spots them, I was lookin at my buddys "christmas tree" and could see them at the same depth. Caught 30 crappies between 4 of us. Not too bad of a day.

+1 for the Showdown Troller!

literally just pulled mine off the first charge and dropped it down....really easy to use....very good definition....my only complaint so far is that there are no fish to mark smile have a feeling that where you are headed this will not be as much of an issue. have fun!

Made it out on Lake of the Woods Friday and Saturday and the Showdown worked GREAT! Fished next to an LX5 and a LX3 with no issues at all, easy to setup and learn.

I was pleased with the way it showed the fish, no problem telling bigger fish from smaller ones, even had a couple times where there were 2 - 3 fish bouncing around down there and you could track them pretty easy when they made moves toward the hook.

Maybe it was the day or maybe it was the luck of the new Showdown but that was some of the fastest fishing I've seen on the lake, guess we will have to go back in a couple weeks and find out grin

Thanks for all the info! The Showdown looks to be a keeper!

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
