Converting battery to plug-in

HooknHorns

Question

I was just wondering how easy would it be to convert a battery operated fillet knife to a plug-in? I thought it would be as easy as finding the right plug-in that would have an out put of 7.2 volt but it seems that would be too easy. Any thoughts? If this doesnt work I guess Ill dish out the money for new batteries that will last a quarter of the time they say the they should last. I wish I would have saved the money and bought the plug-in type from the start. I guess you dont always get what you play for. Thanks for the comments

There should be a way.

First, are you sure there isn't a spot to plug the cord that goes to the charger, straight into the unit?

Second, Is there any power plug spot on the knife? If so, find a plug that fits it, then splice to an adapter with the proper specs.

Third, last resort. find a plug in adapter (the black box) that puts out 7.2 volts or whatever you need. with enough amps to power the knife (not sure where to find what it requires). Then disassemble the battery pack and connect your adapters wire to the leads that would then power the knife.

You would need to look up on the specs how much current the motor draws to find out what size power supply you would need. The recharger power supply is likely too small to power the motor so you would need one with more output. (Radio shack carries a good variety) It can be done, but its probably more hassle than its worth.... wink

Like Mac said, match up the volts and amps. If you don't have enough amps it will not work.

Don't know what model you have but I'm guessing you'll need at least 1.5 amp power supply.

Ok, my first post didn't apply and i appologize for that.

Get a new one...

My suggestion is to go to Berkely Outlet Store in SPrit Lake IA, and pick yourself up a new electric fillet knife (Plug powered) for $5. New knives will add $2.

I've got an extra electric fillet knife, and two extra sets of knives!

TW no problem should have been clearer, no biggie. I know these blades will fit other electric knives so that is the other possility. I like the pointed sharpened tip on the rapala blades. Just trying to make good use out of a 80 dollar knife.

Yeah they're not cheap, but if you need to stock up on fishing gear, head to Spirit lake, and stock up on cheap (refurbished) rapala fillet knives.

For $80, you might want to try to match up the amps/volts to get it to work for ya, or call it a loss, and buy a few for a fraction of the price.

an electric fillet knife isn't any different than that Electric Carving Knife that you got for your wedding 9 years ago.. you know the one.. that you used once for easter when you were first married and had the in-laws over. and now it sits in the kitchen cabinet collecting dust...

trust me.. I've fillet walleyes with mine... and I don't care if it gets a little bloody.. lol..

What she will never know won't hurt me..
