Patching my new Otter house

JoeTC

Recommended Posts

I picked up a new Otter Cabin the other day and when I set it up I noticed a small hole in the roof material. It's about the size of a pencil eraser (about a 1/4" in diameter). The hole isn't a big deal at all but I want to do something so it doesn't expand. If I use a patch do I have to sew it or is there a type of glue I could use? Any other ideas to fix a small hole? The house was a second so I got it for a great deal but it isn't warrantied so I have to fix it myself.

Thanks,

Joe

There is a special glue, kind of rubberized, that you apply to the patch and the fabric and it welds together. Works great! I would suggest using a circle-shaped patch as the corners are more likely to have the corners peel off. I can't remember the exact name, but I'll look tonight. I'm in Dayton - not far from Otsego - if you want to bring your house over. The bottle I have would do hundreds of small patches. I used it to fix up a damaged Otter Lodge that I bought cheap and sold for a profit. pkangas at loucksassociates dot you know.

I'd buy right from otter as you should be able to get the material and the adhesive that will work best with your shack. On canvas shacks in the past I have used a bit of silicone caulking and white athletic tape and then put a dab over the small hole and secured the tape and then smeared more silicone over the edges and top of the tape. Wader patching kits can get you about the same fix but I'd go with the Otter patch kit just to keep the unsightlyness down and patch the tent per manufacturers guidelines.

(otter didnt have the fabric color to match btw)
