jigs

There is no best jig. I use a lot of different jigs for different purposes and depths. For live bait I like a short shank hook like the Northland has. For plastics of course I go with a longer hooked jig with a barb to hold the plastics on.
There is a ton of good jigs out there. I guess the best all around jig if I were to only have 1 style it would be a round head jig.

If I had to pick one jig I would agree with Northlander on this one! Roundheads are probably the thing I couldn't live without. I love my Phelps Half-Face jigs though, I don't think I could go without them either!

Can't beat a good old round head for versatility. You can fish them in all different kinds of conditions and work them with all kinds of actions. Its my favorite lure for many species of fish.
Next time your in a tackle shop check out JR's jigs. They have a wide variety of jigs, some with great brass rattles, short shanks for pithcing bait, your basic round heads and many other styles. They have a great glow paint that is durable and really GLOWS.They also have some decent hooks.NOt those "rubber" hooks you get with some bulk jigs from little plastic racks.

I've been molding and painting my own round head jigs for lots of years. My molds are 1/32nd, 1/16th, 1/8th, and 1/4th. I can fit at least three different hook sizes into each size mold. That gives me lots of options for jigging with bait or plastics. If I had to pick one type of open water lure it would have to be round head jigs. There's so many ways to fish them.
