Anybody else win a "free trip" from Vacation Getaways at the Ice Show

I got a call from Vacation Getaways saying my name was drawn at the Ice Show and I won a free Florida vacation.

They were setup in a booth in the Roy Wilkins auditorium. It was just a plain booth with a couple of attractive ladies asking you to sign up for a chance to win a vacation.

Did anybody else take the same bait and get hooked or am I really that lucky.

ya. And then the guy who called got really mad at me for asking him "whats the catch" before he could finish his shpeel. "you won a free trip! It will only cost you $499!"

Shoulda known better. Everyone in my group signed up and I succomed to peer pressure.

More than likely the only one that "won" is the company that collected your personal data and can now try to get some $ out of you by offering a "great" vacation package.

Not knowing the details, I would say be careful about giving them any money smile

I kept the guy on the phone for about 10 minutes and he finally hung up when I told him I had to ask my cat if he thought this sounded legitimate. I know he is only doing his job but when it's pretty much in the form of a scam I like to have some fun.

When I take the wife to the Sports Shows, or should I say when she comes with she stops at every booth and registers for what ever their giving away.

As sure as the day is long the phone will be ringing the following week. She does win a lot of legitimate things though.

I didn't make it to the show this year, but my father and I both got that last year. We only registered for the atv drawing but got that same scam call. They actually tried calling 4 or 5 times. I listened the first time, laughed at him and said "Nice scam. I'll be telling everyone I know about your B.S." On subsequent calls I was a little less than polite.

I'm sure everyone that registered got a free trip. I saw it and said "no way" to my buddy. I siad you'll win the trip alright....since when does a "free" trip cost money? Like the call my wife got for Vegas the other day. We won a free stay, just going to cost you a few K for the ret of the trip....

I have a friend and when he gets calls like this he tells his kid to say this.

Mom and Dad are at the liquor store again getting drunk and they may not be home until tomorrow. All they do is drink all the time. He said they hang up and never call again.

HA HA HA HA!!!!

I was the last of five to get the call we all won. The guy says you won a trip to florida I ask why he says from the drawing you signed up for. I say Unless it's a trip to go somewhere cold i dont want it. Then said I only signed up to win a 4 wheeler and if not dont need it. The guy was nice asked about weather and ended the conversation. Didnt think it was so bad.

    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
    • Sketti...  not out of a jar either!
    • Lol yeah I watched that
