Clam Vs. Eskimo

There's quite a bit of size difference there. If you have the ability to pull the heavier Yukon (i.e. snowmobile or ATV), I'd go with that as you'll like the extra space. But if you usually just fish by yourself or if you're a walker, get the Quickflip 2.

I second this advice.

I personally have a Quickflip 3 which is quite a big bigger (and heavier) than the QF2, and probably comparable in size to the Yukon. I love the extra space, but when pulling out by hand early in the year it can be a real bear. If I was primarily pulling by hand I would get the smaller shack for sure. It's big enough if you need to fish 2 people and plenty of space for 1.

If you have means to tow (and utilize that tow bar) then go with the Clam Yukon with cover.

EDIT: I just added on the hyfax kit at the end of last year so I am very curious to see if it pulls easier than before. Going through snow was very difficult when fully loaded and pulling by hand.

If you can manage the weight than the bigger the better. Both are priced fair.

I have the Clam Yukon. I think the exact year that you are looking at. I do not have a cover and tow bar yet. the cover is $50 by itself and I assume the tow bar is the same or more. If it is in good shape I think you are getting a good deal. Nothing against the Eskimo.

I didn't' realize you have the Yukon. If that is the case then the Yukon isn't much bigger (if any) than the QF2. The cover and tow bar is still worth buying over the Eskimo, assuming the Yukon is in good shape. The new eskimos are pretty sweet shacks too but by the time you add a cover and tow bar you might has well have went Yukon.

Hyfax isnt a cure and wont help much for pulling through snow by hand. Only thing I found that makes that easier is ski wax and going smaller and lighter. It really helps tracking and keeps wear off your sled when pulling behind a motorized vehicle.

With that said I would go with the Yukon.

yeah its a Yukon. You know as well as I do it will fit two alright, but yours is perfect for two. Cant wait to try out your new seats. I love the Yukon for solo fishing. It is not too hard to load into my truck bed by myself and with my little sunflower heater it warms up real good.

Thanks for the heads up. That is pretty much what I was expecting. The tub on my Eskimo is much thinner than many other tubs (especially my otter sled). This isn't' necessarily a bad thing however because it allows me to fish solo out of my three man without killing myself (I love the extra room, especially when bringing Fido). I'm hoping that the hyfax allows me to do more towing without as much worry of damaging or wearing out the sled.

The new QF3 with the thicker tub went WAY UP in weight. I can't remember the exact specs but it was around 20-25 pounds. It's hard enough to load my current QF3 into the back of my truck by myself at 100 pounds.

I almost bought an Eskimo last year. I was at FF ready to pick one up when I started looking at the Team Wild two person house. It was only $20 more, plus it came with a cover. To me there is absolutely no comparison between the two houses; the quality of the Team Wild house is on another level. Not to mention it is taller, I am 5' 11" and can stand up in it.

This is just another thing to consider...

Thank you guys for your input of course the one I was looking at for the 300 Yukon sold before I could get there after work today. So I think I am just going to go with the new Eskimo. My brother in-law has the older green model and he has never had any problems with it. Has anyone else had any? One of my Co-Workers said that the rods bend easy...

My brother-in-law also has the older green model and has never had a problem with it. Actually convinced me to get the older QF3. The newer ones are even more solidly built so I wouldn't have any worries if I was you. I wish I had one of the newer style ones...that red and gray combo is pretty slick looking.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
