Keeping Reflectix attached to the back

I put the reflectix in my otter portable last year. The stuff is great! Along the top I attached it around the velcro straps, and I have it running down the back (which is great for keeping the wind out).

I tried taping it to the base and on the sides, but it just doesnt stay put. I have thought about using some safety pins, but thought I would ask out here first.

What are you guys using to keep the reflectix down and tight against the wall of your porty?

I removed the tent from my shelter then wrapped the reflectix into the fabric. I then put the tent back on with the reflectix held in by the same screws that hold the tent on.

I laid the reflectix over the poles and then on the forward most pole, looped the reflectix around the pole. I then liberally applied high strength tape to the reflectix. Worked all last year without a problem.

I just did my Clam Kenai and Fish Trap Voyager a couple of weeks ago. On the outer edge of the back lip of the tub I put some strips of Gorilla tape, kind of between the cloth and the tub, as best I could so that when the strips stuck up along the back the sticky side was facing in. Then I pressed the bottom of the reflectix against the tape. After I did that I taped the inside of the reflectix to the tub with the foil tape that you normally use with the reflectix. Still holding, will see how it does over the winter. That Gorilla tape is spendy but some super stuff. It's never failed yet on anything I've used it for.

You could cut slits in the reflectix and use double back velcro to go around the poles to hold it in place. Should work fine. I just did the top of my shelter and ran the straps thru the reflectix. If it hold on the top no reason it shouldn't work as I described on the back.

I just installed reflectix in my otter lodge.I used 4' wide insulation and brought it down the back and around the edge of the sled by 3 to 4 inches, and then put 2 pieces of a 1*2 piece of wood up against the insulation and tight against the bottom side of the sleds edge and put some machine screws in from the top side of the sled and into the board. Holds it tight. On my otter sled a 1 inch by 2 inch board fit perfect under the edge of the sled.

on my quick flip 3 .i put velcro on the tub and on the reflectix.i also sewed velcro on the back edges of the canvas on my shack.it holds it in place great this way i just loosen it when i'm going to collapse my shelter so it is easier to fold down.

I think my problem is that I cut the reflectix a bit to short it is flush with the canvas, and I had hoped to attach it via velcro tape to the canvas and to the reflectix. The problem is that the tape does not hold up in the cold and it comes off. I think a lot of it has to do with it being attached to the soft fabric instead of the hard sled.

The other idea I had was hot glue, but I want to keep the install temporary in case I want to pull it out (although I have no idea why I would, weight?).

Thanks.

    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
