hydro-foil

got a quick question....... I got a 25hp evinrude with a 15ft v-boat. When i am by myself it plains out right away but when i got someone else with me it wont plain. I was wondering if getting those hydro-foils will help it plain out with other people with me.(if not i might have to get skinnier fishing partners or lay off the mcdonalds myself!!!)

The hydrofoil should do the job. There is another trick to try. Put as much weight such as gas tank, anchor, little used gear etc as far forward in the boat as possible. It might just do the trick, and save you some money.

A foil may help. If your not able to plain with 2 guys you need to do some changes besides a foil. Get rid of any weight in the boat thats not needed. The stuff you do need rearrange it. How many batteries do you have? Anymore then one is too much for a 15' boat. Have you tried changing the motors angle? What are your RPMs under WOT? A lower pithed prop might be what your looking for.

Hydrofoils can be good but not in all situations. My first boat was much like yours, a 16 foot with a 25. Fine with just me but loaded at all and had problems. I had a hydrofoil on the back for a couple years thinking it was doing good but took it off one day just to try it and was amazed that I picked up about 3-4 miles per hour and plaining was better.

Now on my newer bigger boat I wouldn't go without one. My boat is back heavy with a kicker, batteries and such and the fin takes out the bow bounce at mid speeds.

only way to know is to try one. Borrow one if possible. If it doesn't work, 4 small holes in your cavitation plate won't harm anything.

My previous boat was a 16 ft Alumacraft Backtroller with a 25 Suzuki Outboard. I had no problem planing the boat with 2 or even 3 people. No hydrofoil needed. I had 2 batteries and a front and rear trolling motor. I'm curious to know the age of the outboard and the last time it may have had a tune up. It doesn't seem to me like you should have a problem planing a 15 ft. boat and 2 people.

I put one on my 16ft lund/40hp it helped alot with keeping an even plane, also helped dampen waves when still fishing. recomend to buy one.

I agree with Crossin'eyes, you shouldnt have any trouble planing out with 2 people, and an average amount of gear. I would suggest adjusting the trim angle of the motor. Smaller motors typically have a rod that can be moved into 4 or 5 different positions depending on the angle of your transom.
