Muskies

They are like any relationship with anything it goes up and down, there are times when I really cant think of anything else and others I wish I could think of something else, and so I go off and fish for other things.

I really cant get enough of drifting over a pile of hooks stacked on the bottom or poppin a flu-flu across a column of arches in open water. The thrill of catching giant gills on bait rigs in 25 foot of water is magnificence. I really start yearning for a northern Iowa Trout stream watching a floating rap curl around the bend and downstream; there is nothing like the anticipation of those first few snaps of the rod; knowing she's gonna explode in your hands.

I guess the one thing Ive found that bonds this conglomeration of outdoor adventure together is snapping a glide bait over a pile of rocks or letting her drop in the pockets and snapping her up to pause and load the rod. Muskies are the most incredible fish Ive ever loved, I just need to see her and know she's there.

She isn't everything in the world but she is all I need to keep it all in perspective. I wonder why anyone would want to fish them.

Esox Magnum, I got 2 telescoping 9ft XH's, one fat cork and one split grip. They both seem awesome, got them yesterday, reels are on, can't wait to unvirgin them. I've heard nothing but good things about them from everyone/everywhere.

I am new to fishing skis this year but have been fishing 40+ years and when I was looking at rods & reels I came on here asked a few ??? and decided to go with with the calcutta 400 and a TI 8' xh and next year when I can offord to put another rod in the boat It will be another calcutta on a TI rod. man I love that thing and when fishing with other people and seeing some of the problems they had with thier equipment It just reinforced that I had made the right choice.

Muskies, why the f*(@&* would anyone want to fish for them?

Getting up early in the morning (late, in the evening) all to chuck baits the size of small dogs with blades the size of hubcaps. Beating the water to a froth only to have a fish the size of a surfboard (probably got that way from eating 10 walleyes a day) just swims away from you proving that even a creature with a brain the size of a 1/4 oz split shot is smarter then you. Running spot to spot in some gaudy gas-hog of a boat only to have every other "pro" cut you off and drive your blood pressure up 10pts every rock pile you hit. Only to find out at the landing after 16 hours of flogging that the drunk dude with in a 14'er caught 3 with a 54"er to your 1 32"er.

In the end, after a long life of muskie fishing, all there is to look forward to is an underfunded 401k (from the money you spent on the 1000's of muskie baits that never lived up to the hype) and shoulder surgery.

God I love muskies! wink

That's it Kellet - I want my money back for the "Treats!"

I spend some time at lunch with you and Redig getting excited to maybe get hooks into some nice fish yet this year and come back to read this???

Kinda makes me want to sell all my chit for $100 and take up video games!!

BTW - Remember, I'm launching tonight around 10 if you want to jump in... grin
