I have twice watched another guy let his boat roll off the trailer and land on the asphalt about a car length from the water. Owee. One was a public access, the other was a resort ramp.

I saw one roll off a trailer too. It was a brand new 2004 1650 FishHawk Crestliner. It look as it had never been used. Good the guy raised the motor up otherwise he would of took out his lower unit too. OUCH!

I think the best tip I read is to remember to install the drain plug.

I think I saw at least a half dozen boats forget to do this last year, maybe more. I even had it happen to me after I took it to the dlrship for some work--I never pull it out so I was surprised out on the lake when I took on water. Now I always check. Dang dealer.

I am awful tempted to send this to a guide that backed down on top of me on Mille Lacs, but that is another story.

Gee Whiz, I never new that there was such a thing as Boat Ramp Etiquette, I always thought the boat ramp is where the real person shows his true feelings about his fellow fishermen. Just kidding but I have run into some really rude people at the boat ramp, it is to bad it has to be this way. Just a thought but maybe this is the training ground for future ice fishermen?

I have a fair amount of patience when people have a hard time backing the trailer up and maybe some difficlty loading. That is a skill, even though they may have practiced it can be difficult for some people. But when they do things like back up to the ramp and then take the strap off, put the plug in, load there coolers, poles, ski's, tubes, what ever, while there's ten boats still in line to unload that frustrates me. Thats just common courtesy.

I'll have to admit, for all of the fishing I've done over the years I can count bad experiences at ramps on one hand.

is it possible to unload a pontoon boat or load it by oneself or do you need a second person? Buying my first boat in one week and trying to get an idea.

If you can, I would get one other person to help with that pontoon. My parents have a pontoon and it sure works well with my Dad and I loading and unloading together.
