Snapped my rod tip

Feel like an [PoorWordUsage] for this one... but I shut a door on my jiggin rod and it snapped about 2" down from the tip.

I was thinkin about just cutting the rod down to the next guide, which is 2" down from the break (so there was 4" between the tip and the next guide). I had been planning on pickin up a new jiggin rod next season anyway, not too concerned about the functionality of this one. The primary use (cut down anyway) would be for drop shot and bobber fishin

Anyone see any glaring issues with this, or should I just figure out how to make the rod 6' again? I don't see how I could possibly get it back to the way it was as far as feel and strength at the tip is concerned (feel more than anything).

Too bad... Funny thing is there was absolutely no reason to shut that door at the time.

Unfortunately putting the 2” back is not an option. The action of the rod comes from the taper in the blank so by cutting any more off the tip will negatively affect what action is left.

My recommendation would be to retip the rod as is. You will need a different tip top that is a little bigger than the original. This is a fairly easy job and if you need any help, tricks or tips you can always ask or look back at some old posts in the Rod Building forum.

I agree just re tip the rod where it is broke now.

I will 3rd the suggestion to re-tip as is. If you feel that the 1st guide is too close, I would just cut that guide off, not remove another 2 " of your rod. To get that other guide off be very careful with a blade.

Been there done that.

Don't cut anymore off.

Remove the guide and replace it with a new tip top.

Bring the rod section in to get the correct size.

I had one rod that was my favorite and didn't want it any shorter as I liked the action, that is why it was my favorite rod. Was skipping rods while taking a break on shore. Dang if I didn't hit not one but three rods that where vertical in rod holders. Cut one off clean and scored the other two which broke later.

The rods were useless as the break was about a foot from the tip.

I made a insert out of solid fiberglass and epoxied that into the broken sections.

Once cured I wrapped both end sections so it didn't split when the rod was loaded.

That worked out well but the tiny bit of added weight changed the action.

Thanks for the tips guys, I'll try retippin it at the break off, and then will also remove the next-closest eye. Funny, the reviews of my rod on c-store's HSOforum mentioned close proximity of the second guide to the tip top.

I'll take a crack at it and let y'all know how it goes... or if i run into any snags.
