Classes for understanding sonar

If you have HB side imaging Jason Halfren Outdoors has great educational articles and videos explaining what you are seeing on sonar and side imaging. I highly recommend checking it out. Specifically, there is a video of a seminar he did explaining side imaging and i-pilot.

Are there any classes in the Minneapolis area for better understanding sonar?

What type of sonar system do you wish to buff up your skills on? Sonar in general, or ice sonar systems, or from a particular manufacturer?

For the Lowrance line, Doc's DVD's are a great choice. His advanced Sonar and GPS DVD would be a huge aid to anyone wishing to get up to speed. His new HDS DVD is comprehensive and will get anyone with a HDS system rolling quickly.

Time on the water will be the biggest help. Go fishing with someone who knows a lake really well, and have them point out stumps, cribs, boulders, weeds, and fish out for you. Everything will always be up for a little interpretation, but with time you nail it down pretty good.

Go to the Humminbird web site and watch all the clips, and read up on the tips. Also hit You Tube, lots of good Pro Staff clips there on the Humminbird line.

The Humminbird users forum will be a help too, check that out.

I will say the Humminbird line in general is highly user friendly and reliable. Don't over-think it, read the manual well and check out the suggestions I mentioned. Reading up on some good articles on basic sonar principal would be a helpful beginning for you.
