Deer stand plans

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have deer stand plans that they would be willing to share? I'm looking at building a 4X6 ground blind out of green-treat and an elevated one 4X6 (maybe 8-10 feet to the floor) for my wife and need a little help.

I tried a search 'cause I thought this had been discussed before but could find anything...

Here is a ground blind I made last spring. I put it out last May still holding together great. I used 2 hog panels and 3 pickup loads of cattails. Lined the inside with heavy black plastic. I used stove pipe wire to hold the front and back together. I used 3 pieces of heavy wire for the bottom together. The backing was shinny so I lined it with black landscaping material.I set it up on two old dock sections to keep the foot noise down. Total cost $45. You could brush it in or buy some material to cover it. I was just watching Bone Collector a couple weeks ago Micheal Waddell hunting from one almost like mine. My ground blind could hold three people if needed. I haven't shot a deer from mine yet. Maybe this year. grin

You're right...there was a thread on this before, but I can't find it either. I posted these pictures in that thread, but will do so again in hopes that it can help you. We built an elevated blind...a bit bigger than you were talking. It is 8x8 and about 6.5 feet high in the front, sloping to 6 feet in the back. The floor sits only about 6 feet off the ground. The location is ideal, and we've killed a bunch of deer from it in the 5 years it's been around.

Anyway, here's the big picture:

The windows are 1 foot high and 2 feet wide. They are plexiglass that slides in grooves notched out of 1x4. Here's a closer look...

Entry is through a door in the floor, which is really nice. You can also see how we braced the floor joyces in this picture, as well as a different angle on the window.

We'll be building another one in a different location this summer, and about the only thing I would do differently is to make a couple of windows with vertical orientation for bowhunting. The 8x8 size is maybe a bit overkill, but is really nice when you want 3 people in the blind, which I do alot when I take my kids along. The tin is in the old Treebark camoflauge pattern, and was only slightly more expensive than plain colors. This caused us to give it an obvious name...the "camo condo" grin

Hope this helps, and good luck with your project.

I know of a set of plans on the internet with pictures of the building process. I used it to build my 4 x 6 on posts. I made some modifications, but it worked well as a guide. I doubt I can post a link here, but if you want to email me at [email protected] I can send you the link.

The grass is quack grass or normal swap grass. I only wear dark clothing while hunting out of it. Last year a had two weasels running inside of it while I was hunting in it. They are very curious. I had to take the sectional couch chair i

had in it out. It way to comfortable and I kept falling asleep.

I cut two tall straight trees and put boards for step. I secured the stand to the tree at the base and at the mid point of the steps. I have three stands like this. They last a long time because they pivot with the tree. I also like them because they are cheap. For the seat I cut a piece off the stump of the tree I cut and mounted it to the base. When it gets cold I bring a pad to sit on.

Agent Andy,

I don't have the plans for this type of stand but I've built eight of them over the last five years or so. The range from twelve to sixteen feet in height and the are on a four foot by four foot platform.

P.S. I also seemed to miss the part about free standing as well...

Thanks Tom I did print out the pictures to use on our next stand. The problem I have with my current stand is that there are no trees to tie into or to brace the stand to. I see you are from Duluth. My hunting land is near Brookson.
