First musky!

So... I was out on a metro lake this morning bass fishing. I've never targeted musky before and spend most of my time bass fishing.

I was fishing with a 4" ring fry worm (wacky rigged) and caught a 48" musky!!! It was actually a bit surreal. I was by some pads and the worm was almost back to the boat when I caught the musky (almost on the surface out of the corner of my eye. He turned his head and slowly "ate" the worm. It was the slowest and least aggressive bite I've ever seen. Even when he figured out he was hooked he only ran 10-15' and not that hard. I got him in the boat very quickly with my spinning rod and 30 lb Power Pro braid.

So... it was a great experience and awesome to catch my first musky. Anyone have ideas why the fish was so docile? It seems like it was worn out before I even hooked it. There weren't other anglers in the area, so I don't think it had recently fought.

Being opportunistic predators, I think it's hard for a muskie to pass up an easy meal. A 4" ringworm wacky rigged would be an easy appetizer/dessert.

I've had this experience before and I believe that the muskie was feeding and in this hot water they just don't wanna use too much energy especially because of the water temps! Any pics of the beast!?!? Love to see it!

...Hot water is a very strong culprit. The oxygen levels just aren't very high in late summer shallow water with 80 degree water temps or close to it. It's kinda just like how we get lazy when it's hot and humid outside...

Because it was a musky.

I love 'em because they are big and toothy and top predators, but they sure are pound for pound weaklings. On top of that, fishing for something that'll snarf down mag bulldawg sized prey on a regular basis is pretty neat.

If I'm sight fishing muskies, I'll often want to toss a wacky rigged worm in front of their snoot.
