bucketmouth64
Never participated in the early metro goose season. Are there special areas to hunt or do you just hunt where you would normally go? Don't have goose decoys can a person go somewhere and hopefully just pass shoot geese?
DREZLER
You can get some pass shooting at Carlos Avery if you don't mind putting up with the other hunters. It lasts in the morning for about the first 30 minutes. My old neighbors used to do it.For the most part, you just need to hunt where the geese are- normal areas. But of course you would need permission to hunt private property.
Finlander
Trying to hunt geese without decoys or a place to put the decoys are getting pretty scarce to say the least, especially around the metro area where you cannot hunt the roadside ditches. Any public land with water holding geese and trying to figure out where they will leave the roost in the morning is the key to any pass shooting. The only way to find that is alot of gas in the tank and scouting area's until you find the best spot that has alot of geese. A place with a few geese won't get you much shooting, you need to find the water holding the motherload and get away from the water so you don't bust the roost so they will return, otherwise your shooting will be done there for sure and most likely the whole season. In other words don't shoot on the water! They need there resting area AKA the roost to come to for water, etc. So the main thing here is to find the geese and set up in a place where your not too close to the water so you can passs shoot as the leave the roost away from the water. This is the best way without setting up in a field with decoys. Also, if you see hunters in a field with decoys, just move on and find another area. There is nothing worse than people pass shooting at geese coming into your decoy setup only to have someone blast away and blow it for everyone. There is alot of area to hunt, so there is no reason to crowd any other hunters. Hope this helps you in your quest and good luck!

Finlander, thanks for the advice.
Stringerless!
Bucketmouth, You better check your regs before going to Carlos. It is one of the areas that you cannot be within 100 yards of water. Just trying to save you a headache. Good luck and have a memorable season !
