I like the fishing notes, but i cant see myself paying for an app ever! Nice work though. Throw a piece of black tape over the red light on you camera it will get rid of that red dot glare. just a tip;)
LwnmwnMan2
HOLY [PoorWordUsage]!!!What a freakin phone!!!SERIOUSLY!Dtro and others.... are you just using the market on the Droid to get your apps? Also, www dot iweathr dot com has the NWS radars animated, so you can set those as bookmarks. DTro
Yep, all the apps are right there in the market, and usually install in about a minute!
LMITOUT
Nice video review! That fishing notes app is pretty slick. I wasn't expecting it to cost $12.99 though. I'm going pass on that for now and keep using the notepad app to record the basic data, and then enter the info into a more detailed spreadsheet I've been keeping on my PC for the past few years. I get a little nervous having all the info on a phone that could be damaged or lost with no back-up available. Could open you up to lot of data down the tubes. Can you pinch to zoom in the Navionics app? I get all my apps either through the Android Marketplace app or through AppBrain. AppBrain is nice because you can search and view the apps on their HSOforum using your PC and then have them "sent" to your phone for download. You then run the AppBrain app on the phone and there they are, ready to download and install. A lot easier to browse and shop this way, but browsing using the AppBrain app isn't too bad either. Could open you up to lot of data down the tubes. That's the beauty of this app, and the main reason for the price. All your data is instantly uploaded as soon as you hit save to their dedicated secure server. You will even get an email confirming the new entry. It works really good. I also do like how you can embed a picture and video right into your data as well. oh and no you cannot pinch zoom on Navionics, which kind of sucks if you ask me. DTro
Must be an IPhone thing. I can't do it with mine.
LwnmwnMan2
2 things.I've never used the voice to text on my BB, did it work as good as the voice to text on the Droid? You can fire texts off faster than anything. It works for posting on HSO as well, although it seems a bit trickier.Second, how do I know what version, if I've got 2.1 or 2.2, and where can I get info on 2.2?I'd like to try listening to 1500ESPN online through the phone, to see if it works as good as the C.Crane AM/FM MP3 player I use now, but it looks like I need the flash player. pureinsanity
i don't know for a fact but I think you have to go into your system settings and check for an update from the phone.
pureinsanity
I will say on my girlfriends andriod phone she has the options and menu for the system kinda sucks! That is the one thing I love about my windows phone is I can edit the registry of the phone like I could a computer! I can fully customize anything on my phone!I wouldnt recommend anyone mess with their registry unless they know what they are doing!
Craigums
Is there an App on the android market that will let me get an AM or FM tuner?
pureinsanity
Is there an App on the android market that will let me get an AM or FM tuner? Im unsure about this. I know some phones if they are GSM and not CDMA have built in tuners. My phone(touch pro 2 Windows) has one but it only works on GSM networks not CDMA. Most radio stations have streaming right now. You should be able to go to their HSOforum and stream the media from there in your browser. If your browser isnt support search the app market for Skyfire Browswer. That browser should let you stream media through it.
pureinsanity
GSM = Tmobile & At&t, CDMA = Sprint & Verizon
deadeye
You go to Settings, then to About Phone to check your android version. It will show up on one of the lines. You can also check system updates from that screen as well.
deadeye
I haven't seen a tuner app but you can play the radio from your station of choice's site assuming they have a streaming radio. Kq works decent for me. Have yet to try anyone else cause pandora is the shiznit!
LwnmwnMan2
The fm tuner on the droid works perfect... However when you use the voice to text, It automatically capitalizes the first letter, Then you get weird grammar. I've got mine to play radio and then it rings in my headphones when there's a call. When i get a text i hear "droid".
deadeye
The x has a tuner huh? Man my 1g Droid is feeling more outdated by the day lol. I really want to wait till they got a 4g android phone for Verizon but its eating at me how sweet the stuff they got now is.
LwnmwnMan2
Yes mine is the X, And i don't type anything i just talk. I can send 100 texts a minute. I can't wait for my boys to become teenager so i can take them on!
DTro
haha that's funny I haven't even tried the voice recognition yet.Yeah the X ships with a tuner installed. I had so so results with getting stations to come in. I prefer Pandora anyways.2.2 isn't available yet. But it should be pushed out to us pretty darn soon. LMITOUT
The EVO has a FM tuner as well but the headphones have to be plugged in for it to function (it uses the headphones as the antenna). I just use iHeart Radio and then don't have to worry about reception issues. There is some legislation going around where they want to mandate that all cell phones sold be equipped with a radio. Apparently they have nothing better to do than worry about this nonsense????
Down Deep
To save on battery life. Turn the screen brightness down to half, turn off the gps, and get an app killer to blow away apps that are closed but still running.
LwnmwnMan2
How do you get radio stations on pandora?
DTro
Pandora is not a radio station by definition, it's basically a commercial free playlist that you choose via a song title or artist. It just plays songs at random based on your input.
deadeye
2.2 should be great for you guys it is for sure faster. I think mine is a little underpowered in the processor department for it still but its better than 2.1 was. I miss having web forms pop up in their own screen like emails do but I guess its a tradeoff for having it run faster.Pandora is wonderful. Jimi Hendrix and grateful dead playing while I'm fishing is the best. I even hook my phone up to the deck in my truck now and use it that way. Better than listening to some twacked out DJs for sure.
