GatorBait
I recently moved to a new place and got my centurylink dsl going. Bought a new netgear modem/router as I have a labtop and desktop. Currently i'm using only my laptop, new Toshiba Satellite w/Windows 7. Now I've had this labtop in use w/two other wireless routers the past few months with no problems at all. I'm bascially getting dropped every 15 to 45 mins. One other thing I noticed is the bottom of the router is HOT, almost to hot to touch. I have 2 other wireless connections in my area which are secured as mine is also. Would it be smart to move the Auto Channel to a specific channel? Is there other settings w/in the router that I should experiment with?I've tried this wireless and hard wired, both resulting in the same problem. I'm not exceptionally up on router diagnostics but am able to figure most of it out. Any ideas would be wonderful. Appreciate it.
Matt C
Is it dropping your desktop(Wired) or just the laptop either wired or wireless?Wondering if its a laptop issue or your router.
GatorBait
It's dropping on wired and wireless with my laptop, haven't utilized my desktop yet with it. I've changed the channels and was steady most of last night, then had issues this morning, so I changed channels again and seems to fine....I did find the option to turn off the system idle where windows will cut the net when pc begins to reduce power, think that was part of my issue also. Just way to many settings spread everywhere.
CAMAN
You say it's getting really hot. I would setup a fan to blow across it and see if it helps. It could be overheating. Return it if it is.
MuleShack
If it is dropping when you are hard wired then it has to be a bad router or they are "coincidentally" working on your line every hour.
upnorth
I am going to go along with the router being bad. Getting hot and kicking you off both wireless and wired is not a good thing. I am going to guess the internal fan is shot.
spearchucker
I would first plug directly into the modem and see if you loose connection there too. It could be a bad DSL Modem or line problems. That is the first thing that tech support will have you do.
GatorBait
Well, after doing everything and anything to it, i've come to the conclusion that it's junk. During this time I ordered a modem/router from my isp provider, hooked it up, set it up and i've yet to be dropped. I even went to the extent of running the same settings on the junk one and it still had issues. So back to the store it goes. Appreciate the help.
