Shimano Rod Warranty?

I just went through the same thing - bought a crucial at the "c" store and was told there was a lifetime replacement warranty. I was strongly under the impression (ie. led to believe???) it was a lifetime over-the-counter warranty.

The rod broke. I called the "c" store to make sure they had the same rod in stock before I drove all the way to get it replaced, that's when they told me about the 60 days and receipt required for the over-the-counter replacement. I told them I didn't think I had the receipt and asked if they could reprint if for me, which they wouldn't do. I was z[PoorWordUsage]ed off because none of this was told to me when they were talking up the lifetime warranty.

Fortunately for me I found my receipt after a lot of searching, and it was well within the 60 days, so I was able to get the rod replaced.

It's the only rod I've had replaced over the counter. All of my other rods that were replaced under warranty had to be sent to the manufacturers.

When I sent in my St Croix Avid they called us back and asked if we would like to upgrade to a Legend for $50.00 more. Absolutely !

What a sweet deal because I picked up the rod with a Shimano Stradic 1000 all for $120.00 off the auction site. The guy that listed it posted it in a weird way and I just happened to stumble upon it.

And he had never registered it.

PJ- I think I sold you that rod at one of the events.. and at that time, they had not installed the 60 day thing yet.. the 60 day thing is some new policy they have.

This is all very good information on how it can be a PIA to get the rod replaced. St. Croix has a few hoops to jump thru to warranty a rod (I've never had to warranty one) but at least you KNOW what the hoops are.

What hoops are you referring to with St. Croix? I have had 4 rods replaced by them with no problems at all. And I never registered any of the rods. Always just sent the rod in and had a new one at my door within a week.
