gregg52
I had a 89 60 hp great motor till the end but i agree it was cold blooded
solbes
I had an '84 90 hp Rude, V4 design. I agree on the cold blooded part, had to give her some throttle to wake up for the weekend. After that she was fine. Idled fine and had plenty of giddy up. Evenually lost one cylinder completely, but it give me 6 problem free years.Do a compression check first. If it's good I wouldn't hesitate.
Eric Wettschreck
Good motors. Check compression before you buy.
Sonicrunch
when cheeking compression, keep in mind that is likely to be up to 20 psi difference between cylinders because of the variance in port height between cylinders. On my motor the upper right cylinder has 130, and one of the other cylinders has 110. Yet, the motor is quite healthy. You could call it a factory defect I suppose.
hamms-scooter
He traded his 96 honda 300 4x4 for it. It is brand new looking and said all is well with it! We finally have a bigger deeper boat to venture to mille lacs for some walleye and perch adventures!
hamms-scooter
Yeah it's the v-
boatfixer
If you find a 20 psi difference, id be cautious. Ive done literally hundreds of comp tests on these engines in 20 years and find even numbers.
solbes
I believe on my '84 Rude, I had three cylinders within 2 psi of each other (119-121). The 4th was what made me sell the boat, 25 psi with a scorched piston.
