jerkbait
What do you all do? Say you are baiting every other day and the next day to bait it is raining and thundering. Do you wait? Do you bait in the rain? I am asking because this summer it seems like it rains all the time.

If you have a hot bear working your bait but not a lot of bait left, i would still throw something out just to make sure they stay around. If it is raining hard enough to slow the bears down they will be hitting the bait as soon as the rain stops.
jerkbait
This is a hypothetical question. My first year of bear hunting and I just started thinking about it with it raining all the time. Just curious.
Boar
My 2 cents, Rain aint all that biga deal, but a good soaker or T storm I wait till its done, cause I'm just waisting bait. Just depends on the heavyness of rain to me. Boar
Boar
Sometimes a T storm will whip thru really quick an it's not a problem cause canopy of foiliage blocks most of the rain. Personal choice but you can always go an check an do what ya feel. Boar
jay83196
Don't know what more the bugs or rain! Think I'd rather get wet.
cherokee
I'd bait or wait it out a little and see if it lets up.
lakeshoremunster
we got a pretty good rain during the bait last year if I remember correctly, the bears still hit the bait right away after the rain but man did it flood my area up.Also anyone knows about the moon phase this year around the first two weeks of hunting, last year the bears stoped comming because of the moon, they all turned into night owls. cherokee
Moon on the 1st will be last quarter. We should be good.
bogwalker
Some of my spots have had dry access for a few years but not this year.
cherokee
Ya access is tough in some of my spots. That is probably a good thing as it may keep some of the less ambitious baiters away. Nothing like crossing your fingers before you try to go through the mud/water/rock puddle. I should probably buy a winch.
lakeshoremunster
Im fine with the wet areas, my spot was pretty flooded last year first two weeks of baiting, even had to do a balancing act with my stand, ladder sticks, and bait across some logs to get to my spot. bogwalker
Cherokee, I would not go without a winch. I have really been stuck a few times. Walking out to get help is no good.
cherokee
That reminds me of a time (20 years ago) when I was bowhunting deer and lost my keys for my truck. Walked 3 miles cross country to get to the main road and another 12 miles to get to my sisters house. No one would pick up a camo clad guy with face paint on. I put the thumb out but got no takers. I wonder why.I'll at least bring the come along. One or two winches in my group. Hope I have cell phone coverage if I need it.
charliepete
I use bait that holds up in the rain so I don't let the weather hold me back.
KGPZ
I agree with previous posts- They'll hit when it stops raining. Keep baiting same time rain or shine.
jerkbait
Rain or shine I am good with. It is the thunder and lighting that bother me.

Sitting on a metal platform hanging on a tree while lightning cracks over your head ? Much safer to sit on the ground with the bears. cherokee
I hunted camp ripley once and a big nasty thunderstorm came through. It was striking all around. I got out of the metal stand pretty fast.
