Pokegama Lake Bass Fishing

I'll be up from Florida around the middle of August to fish for Smallie and Largies. I've never fished Pokegama before but have been told the bass fishing is great there.

Anyone be willing to suggest where to find'em and what baits to use?

I would spend time in the river flippin rice. It can be A LOT to cover, but thats where your better fish are.

On Pokegama Drop shot steep Breaks for smallies. The quicker the break the better. Also Look for cabbage that is close to deep water that is where the largemouth will be. Also fish the cane beds.

I'll second cecil. The river all the way up to jay gould and blackwater can be incredible, that's the only place i've seen a true 8lb+ bass, weighed on a scale.

i wonder if that person knew that would have been a state record possibly-a true hog? good luck.

Yup. Doesn't really matter, he's never kept a bass and wouldn't start then unless he knew it was a record fish. I saw one other one in that area that was caught by someone next to us, well over 7, probably closer to 8.

Anyone know where I can get a map of the river, my map only shows the lake

Are there any large mouth in the main lake?

Any suggestion as to areas for Smallies and what to use, colors and etc.

You could fish docks on the main lake and probably find some of both lgm and smm. Weedlines in the main lake also have produced lgm for me in the past.

Haven't decided about that. Just trying to learn about the lake. I've never been there before.
