cherokee
For my first bear I wanted a rug on the wall. I shot a boar that went 300 pounds and it made a dandy rug. This time around I want to shoot one for the freezer and also to make a bear claw necklace (arrowhead in middle). Of course if a big boar comes in I won't pass it and will cape it for a shoulder mount. What are you after? Trophy, any bear for the freezer? Do you have a particular mount in mind if successful? Boar
Kinda a freezer hunter myself, not really into rugs, dont have a wall big enough or a couch that the wife will let me drape one over, I have three on the wall all sholder mounts, closed mouth one looking left one right an one staight on, an the skulls are really cool. really need to get the claws done though. Have one pending, more interested in getting skulls done now, their cheap an make a great trophy with a picture. Boar
cherokee
I think shoulder mounts are cool but right now it's not in the budget. Skulls are neat especially if you have a nice photo to go with it.

Matt Breuer
I am strictly after a bruiser this year. I've got them with all the weapons I wanted, am still eating sticks, and I got my cinnamon. I've never shot a big boy, so that's all I'll take this year.
cherokee
Matt, that's a good plan. A color phase bear would be nice. My brother shot one near Remer one year. A nice brown. I'll be taking bow only as I did last time out. Still need to connect with the bow.
schmoe147
Looking for first bear yet. Hunted 5 years with bow saw bear 4 of those 5 years but only one big shooter and he never presented me with a shot. Sometimes I think I should just go with a gun and get the first one under my belt but nothing beats the rush with a bow.
Matt Breuer
I did that, opted for gun first. Nothing beats the rush of bear hunting, with any weapon! My cinnamon was small, 120ish. I couldn't pass on it though. I've wanted one since the first time I saw that beautiful hair on one of the poles that run the back of our old land 20 years ago. cherokee
schmoe147 I know what you mean. The one I got I shot with the gun but it would have made a fantastic bow shot. It circled the bait and came right in. I shot it at 5 yards. When I have been with the bow the bears came in too late to offer a good shot. Still within legal time but too dark to see the pin (cloudy etc.) Hopefully this year.

mrklean
what does it cost to have your bear made into a rug?
HNTNBUX
I will be spending most of my time sitting with my wife again trying to get any bear. With only five days to hunt my choices may be slim but still hold out for one over 200. My next one over 300 will be a rug mount. I have shot seven bears with my bow and one with a muzzleloader so I am primarily focused on the first bear for my wife.
cherokee
mrklean, it's been a few years but I think it was around $700. It's probably more now.
Boar
Thanks cherokee, That was the reatist rush. mrklean, it depends on teh taxadermist, some charge a flat rate an some charge by the foot, and I seen that rate as high as 125.00 a foot.
