Fish mount question

has anyone ever seen a taxidermist use red pipe cleaners for gills before?

i just got my walleye back after a long wait and the taxidermist used red pipe cleaners for the gills. the mount turned out really nice, but the cleaners are an eye sore!

That's craziness. Did you bring him some mutant fish that didn't have gills to begin with?

that sounds like your taxidermist dint give a ---- about your mount.

My last bass mount I got back had that too. The taxidermist said he switched to that because its alot easier than having to card all the gills and letting them dry.

Not sure what to think about it, I would rather probably have it the other way but I didnt think it looked too bad on mine.

There are numerous way to do the gills.

I would assume the better guys will use the real gills unless of an issue with them.

Not that hard to card the fins.

? did you look at any of his prior work before you had it done, if not and that's how he does them not much you can say. If his prior work was not done that way then you have good cause to complain.

I did not see the fish before it went to the shop but if the fish was left in a real warm temp out of water for an extended period of time, the gills could have turned brown and been spoiled.

That could also be the reason why he used another option.
