Help with Bulldawgs

Recommended Posts

I sell 6 packs of replacmetn tails for Reg, Mag and Pounder sized swimbaits on my Tackle Industires site. You can also email Aaron at MTO and get them though him. They are at the bottom of each of my SuperD pages. They will work wtih Shack, Musky Inovations, SuperDs, etc but NOT Formula X baits like Lifelike lures. Easy to mix and match colors if you want to customize your swimbaits.

What's the best way to attach your replacement tails. I used Mend It a bit last year but was a bit underwhelmed. I've had some success just metling them for a quick on the water fix.

Thanks - erik

Hawg Seekers glue, MendIt are both good. Key is to get a clean cut on the rubber adn place the two parts togetehr and then do not touch them for about 60 minutes. If you use a torch you can melt them together. Just cut, hold the two parts side by side so you can torch them at the same time. Right when you see a little drop of plastisol that is when you smash them together and hold for about 30 seconds. I also dunk them in a littel cold water at that point and they are rock solid and ready to go.

I've had the same experience, the Mend It has worked great for me on teeth gashes and the like but didn't quite trust it for larger tears or new tails; would rather melt those together.

I like mixing the tails up for colors. I also have a full set of plastisol paint from Lure Craft. I love tipping the tails with contrasting colors. Really makes them stand out in the water and I "think" I catch more fish. That paint works on all plastisol swimbaits but I do not think it sticks to formulaX rubber.

Bull Dawgs can be used a many different ways. Personally I prefer to give them long pulls with about at 2 second pause between pulls. If you are having trouble with them fouling on the cast, I would make sure that you concentrate on really thumbing them on the cast. The Dawg should remain level throughout it flight. If it is tumbling in the air you are either whipping your casting motion to much or you are not thumbing the real enough.
