Well, how rare is this fella? I was fishing off my dock this morning at 630am, after a few bites, I got a HUGE, I mean HUGE hit..

Then dead, slightly fighting weight...

The result!!

How old do you think this fella is guys? Yes I am going to release it, after a few hours. Its Amazing looking, the tail, claws, the reach when it snaps!

Thats a nice one! Nice and clean too. I'm goona figure out how to "prepair" them sometime! They say they're really good eating but I wouldn't have a clue as to how to clean one. I think theres even a closed season on Snapping Turtles.

BTW...Your left thumb in the first pic looks like it could be gone in a hurry smile.gif

That's a dandy! I'm not sure which is more impressive, the snapper, or the tire on that pickup truck!
I can't even venture a guess how old that turtle is, but I know we used to catch em' up north on the Red Lake River about 3 times that size. I've honestly seen snapping turtles up there with heads the size of a softball! Be careful with that critter. I had a good buddy that was wading the river with me up north, and one latched on to the back of his tennis shoe at the heel. By the time we got it off it had bitten through the shoe, and left him with 30 some stitches around his foot.
They are a cool lookin' critter though aren't they!

I hear ya there Dark30, them suckers necks are longer than one thinks.
i was carrying one walking behind my cousin one time, I guess I must have been walking to close, that suckers neck flew out and he latched on to the back of my cousins arm.
We got into it because he thought that I did it on purpose, heh, heh.
lucky it wasn't near the size of the one in that pic.
but i gues it still hurt, heh.

Yeah the trucks big too , actually a Bronco

Anyway, I let it go, I found out that the Snapping Turtles are not to be caught in May/June, thats the mating season for them. Still, what a cool experience!

I cant imagine one 3 times that siZe!!!!!!

We caught one last season on the Red that pegged out a #50 scale. A big smelly monster!

Interesting critters, worthy of respect too. If they latch on to you once, you will have a long time to understand why too.

That is an old turtle, most likely looking for a nesting site.

Thanks for sharing the photo's of your Snapper. wink.gif

Nice pic, Chad!
I had one like that swim at me when I was getting ready to be pulled up on a knee-board, scared the dump out of me!!! I made a quick u-turn and a bee-line for the dock, in record time!

Imagine a late-night jump off the dock after a sauna...and landing on one of those bad boys...not to mention you're nekkid!!!!

That is what nightmares are made of!!!

Maybe that was a buck snapper looking for a mate?

That knee board may have caught his eye, thought you were Purdy?

LOL!!
