upnorth
I was having so many issues with Vista and Firefox I switched to Opera. I like it, clean and fast.
BobT
I used Firefox for nearly a year and was more than pleased with performance until the latest revision came out. I began to experience a serious slow-down in performance. So slow it made IE8 seem fast, if you can believe that. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the application. I even went so far as to search my hard drive for any folders or files related to Firefox or Mozilla and deleted them before reinstalling but to no avail. I now switched to Chrome and so far I like the choice.
Jim Almquist
Thank for the info guys. I was using it with XP and did the mods that Shack had posted and everything was working great but I had to upgrade to the latest because a government HSOforum wanted me to and that is when all of my problems started. I have Chrome and IE8 so I do have choices but I guess I will look to mod Firefox and see if that helps.

Jim Almquist
The funny part about is that I was at 3.5 and there HSOforum wanted you to be above 2.4 and did not recognize me at 3.5 I did a few tweaks and so far it has been good. Shack
I amazingly (at the same time as Bob) has that Firefox issue. This was only on my lap-top with Windows 7 and right after that update. Like I said in that post, I ran the Firefox uninstall wizard and downloaded a new/fresh download, installed and has not had an issue since. I read elsewheres of people having this issue after the update was installed. Remove & Reinstall was the most positive answer. It took only a couple of minutes, start to finish. Just do not see myself leaving Firefox. Never could see myself leaving Internet Explorer though either.
Jim Almquist
Shack I went in and looked at the mod about network piping you had posted and with 4 being the default I noticed that mine was at 19 and I changed it to a 9 just to see if it would help with the new 3.6.3 version and so far no freeze ups. Shack
I run wide open all the time JIM. I think I have her pushing 30+. Just checked. I had it at 20. I set it a 100 to see what happens. It is just my work PC...

upnorth
I still use firefox at work, but I got so disgusted with the one at home that I just said pee on it and went to Opera. I have tried Chrome, and have IE 8 that I need for some apps, but I really have gotten used to Opera and now I like it better than firefox. It also seems to deal with pop ups better than firefox. Jim Almquist
I also have IE8 and Chrome but just like how Firefox works. So far it has work great so time will tell.
spearchucker
Hopefully the new Firefox 4 will be better. They were the leader and have fallen behind now. I think Firefox 4 will be catch up to Chrome and Opera. The new Internet Explorer 9 is supposed to be as fast or faster than Chrome, so that will be something to watch as well. Jim Almquist
For right now I am going to do a complete removal of Firefox and start fresh because this morning it froze up again and if the problem persist its on to Chrome.

I thought I read a few weeks ago that Firefox was going to strip some of the extras back out of it that nobody used. Basically they acknowledge that it has gotten a little bloated and slow, and the new version is supposed to be much faster. I used Shack's suggestions and haven't had a problem since. No way I will EVER go back to IE. May give Chrome a try though!!
LMITOUT
I was a Firefox user until Chrome came along...haven't looked back.
Jim Almquist
I was a Firefox user until Chrome came along...haven't looked back. After Firefox hung up on me 2 more times this morning I started to setup my Chrome and it is starting to grow on me. I like how I can set up the home page to be my most visited websites and how easy it was to import everything from my Firefox bookmarks. bigbad401
I have Firefox 3.6.3 and have had no problems. I have tried Chrome but didn't like it too much, but I may try it again.
Jim Almquist
I am not sure what is the problem but I would guess from there HSOforum it has something to do with Hyper-Threading.Chrome takes a little bit of setup and seems to be fast and for the most part it has worked great. Born2Fish
I myself used to be a diehard Firefox fan. But now after running Chrome through its paces, I have totally switched over. I also like being able to open the Chrome home page and have all my recently visited websites readily available with one click. It runs very smoothly and also very fast. I have no complaints yet about Chrome.
Jack Stasney
I haven't used Chrome in a while, it was definetely faster then everything else but had terrible graphics comparably. Also once IE came out with tabbed browsing I couldn't resist since it seems to be the only browser that reliably loads all the websites I visit. BobT
Chrome doesn't handle ActiveX control but there are extensions that allow you to open the sites using IE within Chrome.I've also found that Chrome doesn't handle .pdf files very well. When downloading the data it doesn't always provide a download status so you know if it is working or hung up.
Jim Almquist
I have been using Chrome since Firefox started giving me problems and my only complaint is that my trackball seems to move slower with Chrome. I had to set it up so that it would go as fast as possible and seems pretty good but if I go back to IE or Firefox it is too fast.
Shack
Ok, after you guys posted and LIMIT has been supporting Google Chrome, about a month or so ago, I switched to Chrome. It took some time to get used to but reminds me of IE in the bookmarks and stuff. Firefox after the uninstall and install still had some freezing issues. I am running Windows 7 64 bit OS.Even though I really did like Chrome, depending on what your doing, but for me the normal when using Firefox, it picks up sooooooo much garbage as far at temp file junk, cache, cookies and what not. You have to purge at least once a week to keep up. Even just after a CC clean yesterday, I am still getting slushiness, when I pull up Firefox I do not get. Now today around 10:0am I got some font style and size change, plus display that requires me to uninstall and reinstall.I did a check an Opera claims (third party reviews also) they are the browser to be running with Windows 7. I downed load Opera and first things that is turning me off is there is not prompt to transfer info from Chrome of Firefox over to Opera. Both Firefox and Chrome off this right away upon install. I am uninstalling Chrome and Firefox and giving Opera a try. If this fails, I am just going back to Firefox and deal with the freezing until they fox it. upnorth
I have been using opera at home with good results for about 6 mos. I have been reluctant to make jump to 64 bit just yet as it doesn't have full support from the software and driver world just yet.
