I think you are missing it entirely, when you run, where he runs, you will always have guys gambling and taking 2 tires or something to gain track position. That could be one reason why he loses 2 or 3 spots. Another reason could be, that they have to adjust the car too much, because Jr is soooo bad at driving a car that is not perfect. Having to adjust the track bar or add or remove a spring rubber cost spots.

Same driver, but it seems people always want to blame his crew chief.

Personally, I think Lance McGrew as a crew chief has been good for Jr. I think it has taken Jr. a while to give up trying to be a crew chief and a driver at times, and just be a driver. I've listened to a lot of Jr. in car communications and Lance doesn't put up with much.
