crating two dogs at night

I have a pup just over 6 months old that we crate at night, he seems to have taken a liking to it and is starting to go in there by himself with the door removed.

A situation has presented itself where we may be bringing another dog into the family that is 1 1/2yrs old - but am wondering what to do about the crate situation.

I like the idea of the crate because it gives the dog their sense of security of a den, and me the sense of security that nothing is getting chewed up. Problem is, I don't think I can get a kitchen pass to bring in another large crate to take up room in the house for them to each have their own. Can anyone recommend some additional options? Ultimately I think a couple dog beds will do the trick, but my current pup seems to think he should be eating every bed we get him and will make every effort to sneak up on furniture in the middle of the night if I don't make it clear to him that he needs to be in the crate.

Double them up. Once the dogs get used to each other there shouldn't be a problem as long as there's enough room. I have two Brits and they're together all the time - dog house, crate when hunting. In fact I've put them in a large crate with my daughter's young lab when hunting and it works fine.
