First timer going to Canada fishing

Recommended Posts

Hey I need some help I'm wanting to go to Canada the first week in August and I'm need some suggestions on where to go. I want to target walleyes, pike, smallies and maybe muskies. I don't want to spend a tons of money for the cabin and we have our own boat that we will be taking.

Thanks

Pipestone Lake for sure. Great fishing for all of the above, plus lake trout and largemouth. If you want to catch hundreds of walleyes a day it isn't your best bet, but there are some monsters in there and if you work at it, you will catch them, plus eaters. For the rest of the fish, it is hard to beat. Plus, only an hour north of the border and you will see very few other people.

Google Gateway North Outfitters. They have a cabin on Pipestone that is very reasonable and is in the best part of the lake. Not sure if they have that week available, but its worth a shot.

If you need to know anything else I can email you. I'll be up the first week in July. I go up there a couple times a year. For me, there is no reason to go anywhere else in Canada....

Nowiser is right, if you are looking for everything check out gateway north outfitters. If you want lots of walleyes its not for you, but you just want a few to eat you should be fine.

We have 1 opening at our outpost the first week of august, but we don't have walleyes. Lake Trout, Northerns, Musky, Largemouth, and tons of smallmouths.

If you can move your trip to the first two weeks of September. IMO fishing will be better and the bugs will be gone. I haven't been to Pipestone for 25 years so I can't comment on current conditions, but I know a group of guys that go there every year and they speak highly of it. Lac Luel is a great fishery, but has big water and can be rough to fish at times. Morson @ Lake of the Woods is a good choice and you can find reasonably priced cabins and camping.
