you could have applied as a party, thats why we did so then its all or nothing and you wont have to worry about wasting a license, maybe not all 10 but a few groups cause then at least you would be going with people

My partner and I got drawn for zone 12...what I found interesting was that when it popped up on the screen it said my preference # was 2 and our group preference was also 2....I thought that when drawn you lost all your preference and started over...anyone else notice their preference #? Also, when reading through the bear regulations,I noticed that the 3 baits per person limit was "not" in the regs...interstingly enough though, they had changed the registration form so it only had 3 spaces for registering baits....hmmmmm....wonder if that means there will be an announcement on the 3 bait per hunter reg later??? I checked the DNR site and none of the new permanent rules, including the bear bait restriction has gone through, "yet".....Also, it appears you can register your baits online this year by filling out the form at the end of the bear regs...

I was drawn for area 12 also and noticed my preference # is 2. Maybe it resets later. What area do you hunt in zone 12?

Jerkbait....We usually set our first bait east of the silo then run Dick's parkway south to the rapid river road, we follow that east and north, nearly all the way to faunce and then we cut west on the hogsback-obrian trail all the way back to Dick's parkway...it ends up to be about an 80 mile loop but it works out nice for spreading our baits out, avoiding other hunters, and grouse hunting as we bait!! We don't start baiting until Sept. 1st as my parnter doesn't get back from his canadian lake home until the end of Aug...

It works out well for us...by then we can see where the other baits are and get far enough away so we don't have to worry about a bear on several baits...and by the time our baits have settled in and are ready to hunt, 80% or more of the guides and other hunters are done!!

hooksnhorns...the 3 bait deal was not in the legislative bill...it is in the DNR's permanent rule making docket...I emailed them and they said they still plan on adopting that rule...but it "may not" take effect until next year.

I have always applied as an individual to theoretically increase the odds that someone in our group will get drawn. One year I was the only one drawn and one of my buddies came out and camped with me. He fished while I hunted and the rest of the day we hung out together and fished, ran baits, etc. I will hunt by myself if I have to but have been lucky to have friends that enjoy the experience of bear camp even without the chance to hunt themselves. All in all it is just too much fun to miss unless I get the chance to go chase elk again.
