I know this is heresy but I only use a baitcaster and heavy braid for topwater, all 5 of my other rods are spinners.I fish heavy milfoil, pondweed lakes, whatever, and use nothing greater then 15lb or less crystal fireline or spider wire. Pig and jig my favorite followed by texas rigged creatures or worms, wacky worming. With the thin diameter and palomer knot, have never had a problem. I have reefed several 5 lb plus bass out of weeds. PB this year 21 1/4 inch (scale was dead)last Friday hauled him out of lily pads. I have used flourocarbon got rid of it as I did not like knot breakage. Never have a problem with the palomer knot and the fused lines.

All braid for me. I never noticed a different in bites and I can't stand the stretch of flouro when trying to rip a bait or fish through weeds so I'm all braid now. I'm sure other places around the country with less weeds and clearer water it matters though and thats why the pro's mostly use flouro.

I have noticed that the size of braid matters for me. I try to keep it 40# or under. 50# is getting up to "well rope" size and I get fewer bites, especially on lakes with good water clarity. I think the vibration the heavier braid puts off in the water is different once you get into the larger sizes.

All my rods are spooled with 20 and 30 pound Spiderwire Ultracast, most have a 10# test Trilene XT tippet/leader, 24 to 48 inches long. 20# casts a little further but most time it doesn't matter to me, I seldom fish anything but the Miss.
