does anyone have a theft proof way of locking your compartments, was on cross lake last year and beached my boat at the campground the next morning all my compartments were wide open, they picked the locks but did not take a thing thank God!

How thick is that bar? And how hard would you have to pry to get one end to pop out of the bracket or get the bracket to rip out of the boat?

This reminds me of those steering wheel things people used to use until they found out the thieves would just cut the steering wheel and it was gone.

It looks to me like if one were to stick a pry bar under the middle of that thing and give it a little muscle that it would go flying. But I've never tried, nor seen one in person. And that "front tackle box adapter", a pair of vice grips should be able to get that thing out of the way. For that matter a bolt cutter on the padlock would do the job.

Bike riders have found out the hard way that it is almost impossible to lock something up well enough to stop a thief.

Del,

I think the key is to make it more of a pain in the a**. Avoid the crime of opportunity. A determined thief will be able to get through any locks you may have. Heck they could just saw through the wood/glass or just steal the whole boat. The point is to make it a pain. Someone might get a little suspicious when someone else is walking through the resort/campground with a 4 ft prybar or a 30" set of boltcutters.

I've come to the conclusion that it's better to leave things wide open and let the @#$% thief take what they can find. It's easier than trying to fix what they break along with loosing the stuff they steal! If I truly don't want it stolen I take it out of the boat.

You would think that in a parking ramp or a city street or the university of Minnesota too, but you might be surprised. To some degree it depends on accessability and visibility. If the perp can drive their vehicle down near your boat they can hop out, stick the crowbar under the rod, lean on it, stick it in the edge of the compartment, lean again, and they got your stuff in like 2 minutes.

Sort of awkward for them to carry your rods and depth finder back through the resort but I bet they could do it. :-(

That rig just didn't look very effective to me. But I have never seen one up close, so everyone will have to make their own judgement.

I just wanted to point out that thieves aren't afraid of breaking something to get your stuff.

I have been using the Lok r bar for over ten years on various boats. If I had to empty my boat overtime I went fishing for "pice of mind" I would quit fishing. This product can also be combined with a security system if you are really paranoid.

My boat stays in the garage at home. I use this system in over night situations. typically the lots I tay in have some sort of security patrol as well.

I guess do what you have to do, this works for me.
